I have completed the setup of my tank and sump and am now waiting for the first cycle to be completed.
I have a DSB in my sump (reggies sand)
Do I need to seed the DSB ?
if so, is here anyone in capetown that could help me with a cup of sand?
    thanks.

    ok
so can i assume from the lack of response that i do not have to seed the DSB ?
but if I do is there another way of doing it as oppose to using a little "already active" sand ?

It will help if you can seed it with live sand from someone's sump/tank. Otherwise the critters will travel in the system from the live rock and move into the sand. This will obviously take a lot longer.
Just remember a DSB takes 6 months and longer to mature and actively reduce any nitrates to nitrogen.

Like Tobes said you can use live rock, it contains all the critters than you need in your DSB

LOL Richard..... patience, young padawan! ;)

There's just not enough Cape Town people who read your thread yet. Not a "lack of response" ;)

If we can somehow arrange to meet up, you are more than welcome to have a cup of my tank's DSB sand.... It's sea-sand..... ;)

Yes Richard. Live rock will also help in seeding the DSB. It just takes a wee bit longer ;)
