Ok yes i know ive been around for way to long and yes im still asking questions.
I need help understand what i need to keep LPS happy.

What are the basic Supplements i will need?
Dont go crazy on me here, i havnt been dosing anything into my tank besides Purple up.
and doing water changes. my Np pellet reactor should be up in a month.
I have nice carbon but i don't use it because i don't know what to use it for lol :)

I have a fluval canister Filter laying around, could i maybe use it for phos remover?

    hmm what other questions ummm

Well this is my tank at the moment, yes i know i need more live rock :)
Maybe someone in cape town is getting rid of some for cheap :)

It will be a good idea to run carbon once you are stocked with differnt LPS's as they do like to play chemical warfare with each other. Active carbon will absorb/neutralize the toxins that they will release. Good lighting is also recomended for LPS.

This will be more than enough for SPS.

your lights are fine for lps, some do prefer more subdued lighting.
as for flow the prefer medium flow, best is to research each coral before you buy so u know where to place him in your tank.

also lps corals tend to have long feeler tenticles which they use at lights out to hunt for food, so placing them next to each to start is not a good idea, some extend 15cm. lps can also be fed frozen mysis shrimp etc to suppliment there feeding.

as all stony corals the will benefit from the addition of calcium, magnesium, strongtium etc, a good starting additive is brightwell liquid reef or elemental powder.

Cool thanks @dallasg , and what do you think of the bottle of trace elements? and reef booster?

I dose the tank with Biodigest every two weeks to add new bacteria.

Hey man.. I have mostly LPS in my tank and they are doing great. What I can tell you so far is that even though most of them are rated as "moderately" difficult they are pretty easy (well the ones I have) ..

-With your lighting you would have to place them low down on the substrate (thats what I did now).. I had 4 T5's and they did great under that
-So far I have noticed that they are not a fan of flow. Low-med I would say. Under very little flow the polyps fully extended and the lps looked very happy.
-I did no supplementation. Only now I dose bicarb as I have low alk but nothing affected them..

I just have a hammer, frogspawn, torch and candy cane and all are doing great!
With regular water changes you will be fine

Oh and just to add with respect to sweeper tentacles, not all of them send the tentacles out. Keep ample space between them and then at night check up on them. I have never had any sweepers come out so my LPS are pretty musch right next to each other with just enough space so that they dont touch. Also I dose vodka (but with or without that they do great) :) .. Goodluck man
