    Hello,

    I have a 2.5m x 600 x 750 tropical tank, I want to convert it to a Marine tank.

I read quite some posts on the site and evrything, looking at pics etc. So I finally decided I want a FOWLR tank and then as time go I put in corals and develope the tank as I go.

Is there anyone that can please help me what to get that is most important on a filtration system? I'm goinmg to build my overflow and do the plumbing to the outside where I want to bujild a sump. It is outside so I have unlimited space for sump size.

    Someone please help?

It is possible to change a tank to saltwater. Important part is to get an overflow fitted. Need to drill the tank. First you need to get the tank drilled. But before that, first buy the correct bulkhead, so that you know that the hole being drilled is the correct size.

On that size tank, a simple corner overflow with Durso standpipe will work. Space is not that much of an issue, so you do not need to go out all fancy with slimline overflow. It does look nice and sleek. But more difficult to built if you do it yourself. Especially if its the first time you work with glass and silicone.

For a sump outside, first a question. What is Potch winter temperatures? Will it be enclosed. Protected from the weather. Out of direct sunshine?

    Hi & :welcometomasa1:

Very nice tank you have there and sounds like you have a great project in mind.

A few things to consider with that size tank is the lighting requirements which could be expensive in the long run as well as creating flow inside the tank. Having said this your idea of FOWLR is great to start off with

Your BEST investment IMHO is a decent skimmer. Buy the best you can afford

    :)

Tnx a lot for the friendly welcome to all.

I can put a roof over the sump filter it won't be a problem at all...

It gets about 35 degrees in the summer and let's say round about minus 4 is about the coldest it would get... So its ill fist built my sump as big as n like it... And the ill build a room around it to fit properly.

I thought about begging with the FOWLR system because it looks a bit easier to begin with than going straight to a reef system...

How about a protein skimmer in my first chamber, then a huuuuuge dsb and then a huuuuuge chamber with live rock and the some of those chaeto things I've read about?

welcome to masa great to have you join:)

thats a lovely sized tank to convert over and make it pretty:) Just plan carefully in the beginning and ask us any questions you like. The better you plan the over flow, return lines and sump the easier the tank will be to run:)
