    Hi ppl

    I need help.
I saw last night that my false percula clowns has black spots on them.
I googled this and saw a few cases of black spots.

They say it can be black ich or it can be that the fish are stressed.
I see if its black ich the fish don’t eat and rub against rocks and so on.

My clowns do eat and the don’t rub against anything.
But my local convicts do rub against everything but they do eat.

I’ve also seen that they say i you see the black spots move over the body of the fish and there not stationary then it is black ich.

I’ve not looked at the clowns for so long to see if the spots move or not.

I don’t have a QT tank and don’t know what medicine to give.
    What can this be?
Must i be worried or not?
    PLEASE HELP PPL.

    Hi

I have seen plenty of these cases with friends and my one clown also has had it for ages. He is perfectly healthy. Another cause apparently is them hosting in the wrong coral and getting stung which leads to pigmentation changes being pretty much permanent.

I'd say just keep an eye on it but as long as the other non-clown fish dont get it i wouldnt lose sleep over it

are the black spots all over or only on the orange parts (i.e. are the white bands clear?) have their behaviour patterns changed at all, still eating etc?

if so, it is only a pigmentation issue that sometimes occur when they host in certain corals. the same thing happened to my clowns a while back, they weren't hosting anything during the day so i was mightily confused... until i saw them hosting in my zoas at night! interesting choice for a bed...

so ya, it's nothing to worry about. will fade away and come back depending on where they're hanging out.

Im almost sure it was only on the orange part of the fish. I dident see them hosting in anything but then again i dont sit and watch them all night. HEHE

So ill just keep cheaking them out and see what they do but there behaviour still looks the same to me.

    Thanx man:thumbup:

my 2 clowns had these for a while but they hosted & ate normally, no sign of the spots now.... i think it's just pigmentation issues as stated by danimal but i'm no expert. maybe @LuckyFish has more info on this?

How do the spots look..are they tiny, dark uniform dots or more like darker patches?
What corals do you have in your tank? The black spots could be caused by your clowns trying to host in an unsutable coraly (ike touch etc) and the resulting burns are what casue the darker spots (its called hyper-melanization).
Will need to get a picture or clearer description of the dots.
Does the tang have any spots (white or blac) on it?

Its called hypermelanisation, its a reaction to the corals its been getting all cuddly with... Mine have had it twice for a short while - first when they started hosting my xenia and again when they sidled up to my frogspawn. There is no cause for concern.
