Take electrical conduit piping and build a frame from which it can hang, I will try send a pic of mine for you to get an idea, I have it hanging over the DSB and it works just fine. You have the option with width which I didn't have, considering I have abubble trap in the middle breaking my DSB in two essentially.

My main light comes from the right, it is a crazy size spot light - the picture is "white out" if I take it with the lights on. You can see the frame built from standard electrical conduit pipe and fittings, the fee pipe I have used 50mm PVC pipe which I had spares from working on my pool, 2 end caps and drilled out the one end and put a flexi pipe coupling in the drilled hole. All glued together I piped it up and hung the ATS.

In my case I used a clear perspex just to hold the "screen" in place and for the water not to fall through but rather to run down it's entire height, what I have used is an old under gravel filter and scored it up with a dremmel. As you can tell it is a fresh installation which needs to get going still, I only installed it last week-end and it should take a few weeks before it gets into action properly.

The downlighter you see in the background is there for the first chamber of the DSB which doesn't get much light because the ATS shaddows it and the Chaeto needs a little more light than it was getting. The lamp shade made from tin foil, it can go to ruin, and I just build another - it only cost like R1 maybe to make and it doesn't look completely crud I reckon.

You could maybe suspend it from that stand somehow, but the question is HOW??
You want DIY but also don't want it looking nasty, function with asthetics - a sump is not asthetically pleasing actually, but it can be made to look worse than it should...just something to ponder in the back of your mind really

Only problem with a floating one is surface area. You only have one side, so you have to make the screen twice the size. But if space is no issue then why not. I also like that idea. If the screen is going over the DSB, are you not going to negatively affect the flow over the DSB. The water is going to move over the scrubber screen now and not over the bed.

What I understand about the floating ATS is that water needs to just cover it most of the water will still flow over the DSB under the ATS.

I am thinking of getting pool noodles which I will make smaller & then attaching the screen to it? would plastic piping not work as well if sealed? would / should float?

I took material that I make my nets with, the 20mm pipe that I use on the tank, cut 2 piecies that were 5cms wider than the sump, glued the netting on, and then placed than over, with the netting in the water. My DSB is about 4foot, so lots of surface area I had to work with
