    Hey guys

    need advise on what would be the best LEDS to buy if i am looking at keeping a more SPS dominated system?

    Thank Dimensions:

    L = 2.2 m
    H = 1 m
    W = 0.8 m

    The lighting unit would also have to be pretty small in height as the opening on the top of the tank at some points are very low.

    Your time and advise would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

    that size tank will need a fair whack, if i may suggest a hybrid solution of T5 and Led
    I would go with Radions from my experience, you would need 4 of them depending on scaping and i would suppliement with 2-4 80W T5

    there are many combinations but depends on budget etc

    Hi Dallas

    Thanks for the reply.
    How much are Radions and would the light they give reach a depth of 1 m?
    also how big are the units?

    on 1m you would need LED cannons but these arent small units, that or T5 and metal halide

    radions do 600x600 but at 1M it wont be viable

    according to Rapid LED led university they say for spa dominant system if you want to work out how many led you should add their formula is length in inches x width in inches divided by 18 so for you tank length is 86 inches x width 31 inches 86x31÷18 gives you 153 leds to cover that tank

    for softies the formula is length x width ÷ 22

    the new gen 3 radions go for 12k +-

    with 5 watt leds it will be sufficient.. nobody puts sps on the floor in a tank so the light won't have to penetrate 1 m of water

    the vertex sr360 is an 80 watt per foot led fixture that claims to have no colour changes in LEDs for 10 years there LEDs are 3 watt that are under driven @ 2.5 watts.. they claim that's it can grow spa at 80 cm deep tank.. Jamie from vertex did par test from a 90cm fixture=80 watts on 100% intensity had a par of 360 at 50m deep.. so with LEDs already way ahead of the vertex light which was built in 2011 or 2012.. I'm sure the new led 5 watt technology could grow spa at 1 meter deep

    big tank big cost it is all porpotonial to the size of ur tank I just did a quick calculation the diy route will cost you 13k or let's say 15k with making it look nice.... a vertex 1.5 sr360 will cost 45k or 4 radions will cost you about 50 k so dit will always be the cheaper option on a very large tank you could spend another 5 k getting every cover on the day cnc 'd to make it look just like professional and youd still be saving more than 20 k..

    OK so no warranty 1 string of leds blows you've still got 9 and a small cost to repair
