    Hi All

Please help URGENTLY with advice for my Naso

He's been in my tank for +- 6 months. We were away for Easter and the regular baby sitter took care of the fish. We noticed last night that he wasn't as "energetic" as usual and hardly ate.ormally quite keen on mussels and pellets, however, last night, showed no interest in either! We checked all water params, they were fine. Missus took water sample to LFS today to test, same result.

All other inmates are acting and feeding like normal. Last water change done on Thursday last week (10%).

He looks like he's chewing on something (never noticed this before) and my missus just called to say it looks like his tummy area is thinner than usual (looks like he sucked in his tummy) - hope that makes sense.

    Urgent advice will be appreciated!

I am no expert in these type of fish, but hopefully one will be online soon.
If he is still swimming "normal" and other fish does not bother him, maybe you should give him chance till the morning. The issue that it looks as if he is " chowing" something is a bit worrying, could be parasite in his mouth of some sort, but like I said, I am no expert in the behavior of these fish as I have never had one

Are there any other fish in the tank? Is it possible that the baby sitter sprayed some air freshener or deodorant etc. in the house and contaminated the tank by accident, or any cleaning chemicals? It does sound rather bad unfortunately.

It could possibly be Mycobacterium marinum (relative of tuberculosis) (this can be contagious to humans). http://www.provet.co.uk/health/diseases/mycobacteriummarinum.htm

    Hi Guys

Bad news... My Naso did not make it! I am devastated. Now I face another problem. He wedged himself behind the rocks right at the back and its gonna be a mission to get him out.

@ Viper, the other fish all seem fine. Feeding normally and no signs of stress. I have a carbon filter running to help with toxins like air freshners etc. The baby sitter is adament that he didnt spray anything near the tank. Thanks for the link you posted, will check it out.

Sorry to hear of your loss, JDgr8. It is really unfortunate that you were not able to actually make a phone call when you originally started this thread. I was only able to get to this thread now (as there are so many other threads open on MASA).

If this ever happens to anyone of you - please take one of Lanzo, Rob, Luis, Moolis, etc.'s cell numbers, and CALL THEM.

Or for example - I have my MSN and SKYPE usernames in my profile - try and chat via MSN or SKYPE with one of the moderators or admins. Perhaps we can assist??

The next steps, I would suggest, is to do a very decent water change in your tank. If the fish has wegded itself below the rock-work, there would not be ANY other way than to remove the rock work, mate.

In cases like these, I always tend to suggest to try and alleviate the fish's stress.
Do water changes, perhaps try and very slowly drop the salinity slightly, and also put an airpump / airstone in the tank itself, to ensure high availabilty of oxygen.

Using the GAC was a good idea too - for in case there was any toxins in the water....

What other lifestock do you have in the tank? Do you have an anemone perhaps?

    Hi Jacques

No prob bud. I was really stressed last night to see my favourite fish in trouble!

I don't have a nennie (yet). Will hopefully get there one day. Evo was kind enough to assist me with some tel numbers last night and I was so greatful for his help. Anyhow, it is now all over and I am focusing on my other inmates:
    Sailfin tang
    2 x Bengaii
    Fire goby
    2 x clown fish
    Urchin
    2 x shrimp

Just done a 15% water change and another 10% scheduled for tomorrow with another on Sunday. Thanks for all the suport guys!
