    hi guys

this may be a ridiculous question but I would like someone with experience to answer .and who may have done it .

I would like to know if I can run a Nano marine tank (80ltr- 100ltr ) without a skimmer as I will be keeping only clown fish ,crab and damsel.

Can be done very easily. Just keep up with water changes and all will be fine. Can also run Chemiclean or purigen
I set one up for my gf a while ago. It had a hang on filter with carbon and filter floss and macro algae in the tan kto help with nutrient export

Definitely can be done, but as 459b said, use proper live rock, you won't need that much.

Agreed. I religiously do a 10% water change every sunday. Had the tank for almost 4 months and its going great. Plus im a marine noob. This forum is by far the best tool for reef keeping.

Just keep an eye on your Xenia. They can take over your tank.

I have a 55 L. No skimmer, just a HOB with filter floss and coal and an overhead filter (DIY) with ceramic rings, floss and coal and an internal filter with no sponge for flow. 3 kg live rock and seawater from Sunkist beach. All is good and tank is running for two months. Doesn't look stunning but its good enough for my eye. False clown, valentine puffer, redfin rockskipper and a juvenile oldwoman angelfish which I need to get rid off.

15% WATER CHANGES ONCE A WEEK. Beginner though.

    Good evening @459b,
Was reading this post and was wondering, could you please elaborate on the hang on filter that you used for the tank. Do you perhaps have a pic. I am trying to figure out how I can incorporate such a filter in my new nano.

    Thanks so much
