    Hi there,

I have a TL-55 boyu nano reef, establishiled for a year now. Have some softies, LPS but no SPS cos I know I have s*** lighting ????

I want to upgrade my lighting to host some good corals and I know my lighting needs a major upgrade to what is supplied by the standard kit.

I'm thinking of a 150W MH ceiling hung and removing the top off my tank now ? (going topless)

Seen the jbj K-2 Viper which looks extremely enticing yet very pricey?

Do I have a cheaper alternative to hang a 150W metal halide over my tank ??

Any ideas will be most welcomed ...

Looks like a cool lamp, maybe the actual globe that is dodgy or an inferior ballast

I think i'm going to invest in another glode? The worrying thing is that the same ppl the made the unit has their name on the globe??? "Chineese"
So I'm hoping its the globe i can change and not the ballast that is s#$^@% otherwise i wated my money???

Anyone know where I can get a decent prices 150W DE HQI 16000K ????

Sammy, if I were you I would take it back if you're not happy with it. Rather now than a couple of weeks down the line having to fork out more cash to get what you want. That light unit jacquesb has posted a pic of is very nice. I've seen it and I think it will fit on your tank. Maybe give the guys at NAAC a call to see what they've got.

just go to any electrical wholsesaler and buy a metal halide flood light unit, they usually cost around R400-R500...and then source a 20000k globe from venture lighting in cape town.

then simply diy it to stand behind your tank by placing the unit on a piece of 38x152 or 38x114 pine timber available at any hardware.

Bought a new 150W MH DE HQI DE from venture in cape town and its DAYLIGHT in my tank ?? Coral responding nicely ????

Unfortunately costed me extra R300 for the Rio Mini Sun and another R250 for the venture MH ???

So all in all S*** costly and not tooo happy :-( then again we will will spend our last penny to ensure our reef is happy ???
