Hi Masa
I built a fw 500mm cube 6mm, which I would like to convert to marine.
I want to make it a all in one .

I have bracing at the bottom of the tank.
By adding the glass for the filtration, will be added bracing?
What size should I make the compartments an how many?

I was thinking of using either a tunze 9004 or BM qq2 internal skimmer.

Lighting I was looking at the zetlight 1201

I was thinking of adding a pair of clownfish, fireFish goby. 2 cleaner shrimp , a few snails a crab or 2

Not sure what size wavemaker to use?

My main concern is with to much flow , will it cause problems with theglass thickness ? I don't want to add livestock then the tank cracks or leaks.
TIA

Hey buddy,

I'd say you'd be okay with 6mm, that is a safety factor of 4 non braced, excl the extra pane of glass for the sump divider. Yes, the extra glass will add strength. so your actual safety factor would be a bit higher than 4. Taking wave makers into account, I think you are okay with this thickness. However, if it were my tank, I wouldn't even give it a second thought and get 10mm glass (I am sure there will be people who disagree). I just prefer to err on the safe side, especially with my pets and young child in the house.

With regards to wavemakers, cheap controllable option is the Jebao OW or newer range that is a shameless rip off of the Nero. They are fairly cheap and generally last for 2 or more years. I have two of the small Jebao OW10's in my nano with not a single issue yet, almost 2 years down the line. If you want a more premium trusted brand, then an mp10 or gyre might be better.

Zetlight 1201 for that size tank is under rated for SPS, and you'd have to be careful where you place your LPS. For softies, that light should work just fine.

You can also try TUNZE wave makers, very reliable and quiet. I have to agree with the 6mm glass being a bit risky, I also think 10mm
would be better.

I'll wiegh in on Tunze... If you want a skimmer that "works" get the Bubble magus. If you want a skimmer that works "exceptionally well" get the Tunze. I have a bubble magus QQ2, and I am not overly impressed at all. I have still got tunze wave makers (too big for my nano) that are over 12 years old and still going strong.
