what u can do is a test for nitrates and PO4, if they are very low then the food source is dwindling and u can cultivate... or use the colour method, your colour looks good

Hi, google "Clowns laid their first batch!!!" by Renier and go to post number 34. Use Chrysal Bonsai plant food. Remember to keep a back up in the fridge. It looks just about ready, if it is your first time split it now, it can go a touch darker if you had to, remember also to give some to someone else as a back up for each other.

Yeah, looks almost ready. When it's properly ready it's a solid, inky green.

It is better to start with at least 200ml, 500 ml split into two x 200ml to inoculate and keeping 100ml in the fridge as back up is better.

You have to be very, very careful with small cultures. It took me four attempts to get my Isochrysis culture up. I was starting with tiny amounts, so any competitive species introduced via contamination wiped it out quickly.

In end I used boiled, sterile glass jars, and that seemed to work okay.

LOL I haven't drank so much coke in a long time. I took 2 2L coke bottles, funnel, jug etc. rinsed in hot water then added some plain bleach & rinsed thoroughly with hot water again then took 1L from the culture then split remaining culture in 2 the added 1ml of the feed in each bottle then top up with tank water which brought sg down to 1.017 before adding to cultures.

Was that ok or should I have done it other wise?

    Thanks for the help guys

1ml standard bleach (Jik) and then 50mg sodium thiosulphate. I have a lot of thio for you if you like.

It is best to sterilise, but I must admit that Rogan never bothers to. It is only food for rotifer and brine shrimp and he usually keeps a back up.

Cool beans. Remind me before the next reef club meeting and I'll bring some around. Alternatively you can meet me at the office in Obs some time.

Yes, nearby there :). I'm in Black River Park. I'll put some in a bag for you and you can come around and collect it whenever.
