    Hi guys thought I would share this gem. I have had some issue with flukes and well like we all know.... it kills!

    I have invented my own little medicated food with great results.

    What I do is purchase a tray of ocean nutrition frozen food.(Take a type of food all of the fish will eat) I have had great results with brine shrimp or mysis. Then I go to the local vet and get 1/2 tablets of biltricide (it contains 600mg of praziquantel). I press out all the cubes and defrost the food crush the tablets and add the two together until it becomes relatively disolved. Pour it back into its original tray and refreeze! Then serve it as a meal and there you go... They may spit it out a few times, but they get the necessary dosage!!!

    Hope this helps you guys!

    Thanks for sharing @williet, question: can this be used only as treatment or can it be used as a means of prevention as well? Sorry for asking but I have no knowledge of "biltricide" and it's uses...

    Hi @gMAN

    Both. It is also an excellent dewormer. I recon it can be used for AEFW.
    Biltricide is anti bilharzia treatment. Bilharzia is caused by Schistosomes and they are part of the same family class as flukes know as Trematoda.

    I use it as a dewormer once every month and during fluke treatments.

    Yup! Get this ..... It is 100% reefsafe if you exclude the feather dusters and any worms that die if you directly dose the tank with a biltricide solution and not with the medicated food.

    Are you not suppose to dose according individual requirements
    I personally think the risks are too high to try it generally on all your tank mates, some will over (my sailfin will) eat and others won't eat enough, therefore just making the medication either dangerous or obsolete. Sorry @williet, not trying peepee on your battery, just worried about adding a medicine indiscriminately to your food.

    Baytril and Biltricide are commonly used. Both contain praziquantel. Praziquantel is not reef safe.

    You can get as as an injection or tablet. In this case it is a tablet.

    Praziquantel can be injected at the base of the caudal fin (caudal peduncle), or dosed with foods, or diluted as a dip or used as a general treatment.

    @Nemos Janitor

    Interesting you say it is not reef safe. I have used it in my display with SPS on 2 occasions with no ill effect. Only thing is you need to add airstones as it does tend to lower the oxygen levels in the water.
    @carlosdeandrade

    It is very difficult for the fish to OD on it even if you have an overeating sailfin. I have a regal like that and I have not seen him show any negative symptoms. also, they need to eat quite a bit as the powdered form of Praziquantel is not too water solluble. So the risk of OD is very low.
    @All
    It is a prescription drug but I explained my case to the Pharmacist and he understood and provided it to me(He was also an avid Discus keeper so he understood what I want it for. It was not like I was going to crush it heat it over a lighter in a spoon and inject it into my arterries) Otherwise you can get it from the vet in a liquidised state already if you want to know the name of the product all you guys are more than welcome to pm me for it.

    Also note there has been found in studies that certain adult angels would have seizures from the prazi but that is rare.

    Yes it is not readily soluble and i normally administer with reef paste.

    TIP If you want to make praziquantel soluble soak it in vodka.
