Well it’s been quite some time since I last posted, so I thought I would post some pics of my new tank. It’s only a small tank at 800x500x500 and it’s been running for a little over two months now. These were taken a couple of weeks after start up, so I have added a couple new corals since then.

Hey buddy, so this is the one you told me about - truly amazing, very nice little tank you set up.
Some pics of the sump? And a full tank shot?

Ha ha, cool comments guys, thanks a lot. Sorry I went AWOL for a while there, I often do that.
Rory the “bird tank” flew away a long time ago, is that thread still on here somewhere?

Ok a little info on the tank.
As most of you know, I look after tanks for a living and this is why I haven’t had a show tank for my self for ages. It kinda gets too much at the end of the day. Well a few months ago I was clearing up space in my garage and I found one of my old tanks. When I say old, I made this tank 10 years ago. One of my black employees that was helping me actually gave me the idea and convinced me that it would be cool to set it up.
I already had everything that I would need so all in all it took a couple hours and it was running with water, sand, rock, lighting, flow and believe it or not, all the corals, fish and inverts that you see in the pics above. Yip I think I broke the world record for setting up and stocking a reef tank.:p

Now before everyone starts screaming about cycling and maturation periods etc. Understand that I already had very well cured Bali live rock and all the fish, corals and inverts were already in my holding tanks for a long time. I also had one other factor that made the express train set up possible. I plumbed it in line with one of my coral holding tanks. Well I was forced to do so actually.

The 250W metal halide was heating up the little tank to much so it was easer/cheaper for me to simply plumb the small tank into the larger tank. This way the temperature remained constant. I would have preferred not to do this as I am always either adding live stock or removing live stock from the larger holding tank and don’t think the waist level fluctuations would do the smaller tank any good. However the small tank seams to be doing ok.

The tank only had 1 small Seio prop pump and the flow from the pump returning the water from the holding tank. The lighting is a PFO 250W pendant with Ice Cap electronic ballast that I bought from the US some years ago. It has a double ended Phoenix 14K bulb. No other supplemental lighting is used other than a Rio blue moonlight.
Filtration is taken care of by the quality live rock. The holding tank does not have anything other than some rock and flow. In the sump there is a ReefTek TS3 skimmer and the return pump and that’s about it.
I add about a cupful of fresh mix kalkwasser to the holding tank everyday and manually top up evaporation with RO made by a Waterboy 5 stage RO machine.

Thanks again for the nice comments, and its good to be chatting to you all again
    Cheers
    Andrew
