hey everyone. i`ve had a yellow tang for two weeks now. it`s about 5cm in diameter. for the first few days it was eating algae off the rocks and not eating any nori or dried seaweed. it seemed fine. after a week it started getting shy, not eating any more and hiding away more and more. with the great advice Lanzo gave me i was feeding it 3 times a day for the last 3 days(nori, pellets and brine shrimp) the other fish love this... he ate the first meal and not again. from last night i couldn`t see him anymore. decided to remove all the rock today and catch him. he`s in a seperate tank now and the display tanks water circulates trough there but he`s not swimming around. you can basicly put your hand in and pick him up.
    is he dying?:(
    what else can i do?
ps. he went white after a week but is yellow again now. is that any improvement?

Removing him might stress him even more, perhaps put him back. Try a bit of banana and peas, also soak the nori in water 1st then squish it with you finger so its breaks into small pieces, easier for him to eat.

    and hold thumbs!

seeing as he has already been moved can you not partition the display tank with a piece of eggcrate or perspex.. something to give provacy from the other fish. so that he can still have the benefit of the filtration and feed him on that side of the tank.. or put him in an area i your sump..

the sudden yellowness is more than likley stress related although im hoping its a slight sign of improvment (im optomistic) if he will take food keep him well fed and build his strngth..

dont ever remove rockwork to remove a fish (my opinion) as this can lead to a whole lot of problem one of which could be a cycle that will put healthy fish under stress and result in possible loss..

    good luck buddy

thanx leslie, as i`m still new here, i still make a lot of mistakes. like removing the rocks.
was scared he was too weak to swim and thought if i remove and place him in a seperate tank i could feed only him and not the others.
the display tanks water circulates trough the seperate tank so he will still get the benefits of the filtration system

i have a small pump pumping water from the sump to the white container with the fish in and then the water overfows trough a 50mm pvc pipe back to the sump

sorry man my laptop battery went flat last night!! no dude i think its too far gone , if hes not eating your chances are grim.. do you have any vitimins? i wish i could have helped.. try to make sure that the fish you purchase are eating well at the shop before you take them home.. i even go as far as to put the fish in a dedicated area to built their strength after travel before introducing them into the main system.. (i must admit im not the best at this as i too get impatient but it is the correct thing to do)...

hoping for the best for you buddy..

Sorry bud, look like he is on hs way out.

Great thinking on your separate system. What I do (and I've just done it with 2 YT's and a Naso) is place all newly accquired fish in sump or as in my case, next door in my plumbed in frag tank. then slowly wean them onto food that i feed in his inmates in the dispaly tank. Nori is soaked in some Seachmen vitamins or Tropic Marin Imnuvit. And only when their bellies start getting nice and fat do i add to main display. This waiting period takes about 2-3 months. Don't feel bad, I lost many tangs in the past which included a YT that was the other two that I was breaking in.

Also if u do move fish around do it once and let things stay there till they are 100% fit again. Moving and catching fish does stress them more. An eggrate barrier in your DT would be a better alternative if you have the space for something like that. Also watch for other fish constantly bullying new arrivals.
