    Hey guys & gals

So I thought I'd share my new adventure with all of you......here goes.

    Just a little Background.

I started marines quite a few years ago with the help of a Atilla a friend and also
a member here and I've been hooked ever since.I have a great love for diving and so all my vacations are always planned around the most exotic untouched reefs I can reach,My excuse to the missus is that I need to visit these places before they all disappear....global warming and all ;)
and as all of you know one starts with a small tank and not so soon after one wants to upgrade.... That I did and had a nice experience keeping a few SPS and softies....I eventually became more interested in the breeding side of the hobby,After many attempts I managed to successfully raise a few clowns at witch point I was forced to
give up the hobby due to my father in law passing away and me needing to continue
    the family business....I started a little 500 x 500 x 500 cube about a year after that
convincing myself that its going to be less work, and I still have this tank running...pic of the tank will follow.

A FEW THINGS I HAVE LEARNED!

1.If anything husbandry related becomes a hassle you will putt it of for later
something I'm very guilty of.So my aim for my new tank is to automate as much as
possible as I have very little time of my own.

2.If you fail to plan you plan to fail.

    3. determination and patience is key in reef keeping,so relax and take it easy.

    OK enough background......

Here is the specs for my new shallow reef:
I will Build everything I can myself.

    DT - 1500mm x 900mm x 470mm (H)
    Water Level at 450mm,Corner overflow.
12mm Starfire glass all around,12mm Clear float base.

Stand - Steel stand, powder coated to give me an "Ellos,Ipod White" look.

Sump - Simple 3 compartment with some modifications.

    Lights - 8 x T5 1200mm geissman globes still deciding on colour.

Skimmer - I have an Aqua Medic turbofloater 1000 might upgrade in the future.

Filtration - I wont have allot of live rock so will be depending on either orca biocubes
or an up-flow scrubber....wonder if i could use the 2 together or would that
    defeat the purpose of both.

Flow - I have an Vortech MP 10ES and bouyu wavemaker mw - 3 will upgrade to
    2 x MP 60's or 4 MP 40's

Dossing - Dossing of ALK,CAL,MAG will be done via my kamoer 7 channel dosing unit
    thanks quinton.

the tank will be in my outside bar and the filtration will happen in a dedicated garage
    adjacent to the bar.

    did I miss anything......
anyway here is stand in planning stage a few weeks ago...

please feel free to hit me with any criticism, I will respon as soon as I can

    Received a 2000 x 400 x 580 (H) tank from a friend that I wanted to
use as a sump.....just got it and one corner on the bottom is completely smashed.
Argh Im so not in the mood to cut the whole thing apart, re size it and silicone it back together again.
so looking for an alternative idea now......

Ok dismatled the broken tank cleaned the glass
    and built a new slightly smaller sump 1300 x 570 x 580 (H)
the glass is realy scratched but I figure what the hell its only a sump.
all that in 2 hours!.pics to follow later tonight.

    Tagging along.

Was going to say galvanise the frame, but I see I'm too late.
On the overflow box, you might want to upsize it a bit. With a short length, the weir height and flow will be very high, this creating the risk of blocking and or fish getting washed over.

Hi I did think about galv but it always leaves marks....and I want that nice smooth modern
    white look. Regarding the overflow I made it 240 x 170 x 490 (H) Had 24 (30mm x 5mm) slots lazer cut into it....hope that's fine cause that too is already done.

    What do you think?

Ok so this was my planned overflow and the way the
holes would be positioned.I have two 50mm overflows
and two 25mm returns, might end up using one return hole as
a way to hide the power cable from my light.

The piece of paper was not in the correct position here.

This is how its supposed to be.

Drilling the 50's by using a template and a hand drill.
