    Hi all

as you know I have and will always do my own thing

Lucky I also have access to the internet & ask lots of questions...

I have been to a few LFS & their are some that are just worlds apart!

the sponsors here all love the live stock & do their best to give the right advise. I must say thank you to the sponsors & my local LFS for all the great advise.

I have been to a few other shops & even for me who is not a bunny huger - I just want to take all the Live Stock they have as they live in really crappy conditions!

what worries me is all the poor people that buy from them & their stuff keeps on dying they just don't stand a chance!!

one of the sponsors on this site is a place where nothing is quarantined and they put up a sign that there is no garuntee on livestock and if they hold the stock for you the liability is yours if it dies.(my paraphrased version)
so they just want the sale! i go to the guys who quaranteen! i will not take stock from S++S

as bad as LFS often are, they are used as a crutch and an excuse by some people to excuse what they have done. LFS's are often very poor and I have heard some shocking advice from them but i think its worse when people get good advice and ignore it for their own pleasure.

i think we love to hate lfs's as it often makes it easier to place the blame on something we brought, when in truth you shouldnt be buying something unless you know its good for your tank and will fit with your other LS. Impulse buying in ignorance is NOT an LFS's fault, its the reefers fault in my view.

SA marines have taken off well in the past three years with specialised marine stores opening and giving good advice, service and LS. i believe people are best off supporting people that give the good advice and hold quality LS. Sometimes that costs a little more on your purchase, but having that fish or coral survive due to being kept well by a LFS to start with saves you a HUGE amount in the long run.

find a good LFS, know what you want for your tank and what the requirements are to sustainable keep that creature and resist impulse buying and the dodgy LFS doesnt earn money off you.

I was in a LFS today and was looking at the corals & fish

Being to some of the better shops one can see how poorly looked after the tanks are kept & now having my own corals when one sees the same coral all shrivelled up it's just shocking!!

I agree once with Crispin re impulse buying & I must say I am guilty I am trying very hard to not buy! that's why I have now put a tank together that can host anything!

Well said Crispin, unfortunately for some LFS's its just a job...not a passion.
