    Welcome Blikkies .

If you move over from one tank to the next quickly , use your "old water" as much as possible , keep your LR submerged etc you will be fine. I would suggest adding a bacterial additive to boost biological activity and absorb (for the lack of a better word) die off that will occur.

Your substrate in the 1,2 seems quite coarse , what is it ? Keep in mind coarse substrate traps a lot of detrius causing nutrient issues down the line...so now might be a good time to look at alternatives

    Yes..keeping a sand-shifting Goby could be a problem at a later stage...if you wanted to add one...

Your substrate is going to cause you problems in terms of Phosphates and Nitrates if you're not careful, rather go for the Sand, builders warehouse reggies stock the sand, just give it a real good clean, it'll take you ages but will work better than what you currently have.

I will be replacing the substrate with play sand

will it be fine to use cycle in all compartments of the sump as a bacterial additive:1:

Current Substrate or the New Sand?

Sand will act as a DSB if you get it think enough and will aid Nitrifying bacteria as well as denitrifying bacteria.

I'd go sand in DT as well as the sump. If it were my tank.

Most guys use a 50mm downpipe, have you already got an overflow/glass structure to accomodate for the overflow? or is it a square tank without any overflow that you are looking to just drill a hole in?

The tank will be built with a 150 x 150 x 550H overflow box in the right hand corner
and the hole will be on the side going down to the sump

I need to know what size the hole must be drilled to fit the right size pipe
any help on how to reduce the noise on the overflow and how the piping should run [also inside the overflow box

Ok....I'm not the brightest of sparks when it comes to Overflows...but did you have a look here...
Types of Overflows, an Illustrated Guide - Marine Aquariums of South Africa
There are other options...if you want the 150mm x 150mm overflow, then have you considered having 2...? one on either side...especially being 1600mm long...it will help with flow and also help minimise detritus build-up...or even a "slimline"..
Evolution of slimline Overflow - Marine Aquariums of South Africa

As far as I know you can also get sand from Home and Garden...I believe they are 40kg bags and I think.. half the price as @RiaanP mentioned it in some of his Posts...either them..or Builders Warehouse or Builders Express...although not sure about the last two...

Yes, I bought a bag at Newlands garden Centre. R45 I think for a bag I could not get out the boot. Had to open it in the boot and start emptying it from there. :)
