This is something I've wanted do do for quite some time now. Setup a Nano tank!

I now have a Nano tank, a Boyu TL-450. a small 40-50L tank. Perfect for the little experiment I want to run.

So my plan is to create a little Live Rock filtered system with extra Carbon and some Purigen in the filter compartments. The majority of the filtration will be done by Live rock. I will take some pieces out of my main tank and break them up small enough to add to the filtration compartment. My plan is to add about 6kg's of really good quality LR to the main Display. I'll see what it looks like and see if the display is too full or too empty, and take it from there...

I know there are heating problems with the TL450, so I have completely removed the Heater from the tank. I'll see how the temps fluctuate and take it from there... I'll pop the heater back in when it gets too cold in winter, but till then, I'll see how it goes.

    So the plan:

    Zoas and Rics... That's it!

I love the look of Sexy Shrimp, so I'll see about those, and some small Gobies. That's the plan!

So I'll be uploading pics of this tank as I go. I haven't started yet, but I have the tank, so I guess that's the start.

    Updates coming soon!!!

    LOL!

I love Zoas. I thought I was addicted to them, but then I met Rakabos. LOL!

I'm quite excited by this system. It has quite a lot of potential. I know it's a small tank, but heck, that's what's going to be fun about it!

Do not break up nice big rocks. Does not make sense to me.

Get smaller pieces. Or can even get smaller pieces from my cryptic tank swapped for a large piece. ;)

Anyway, smaller tanks are nice play areas. Only problem is that anything that goes wrong, goes wrong much faster. I broke down both those 60L tanks I have outside last night. Due to not being able to keep temperature in check. The caulerpa in the one tank looked like half cooked spinach on Monday night, so that tank did overheat during the day. Thank goodness the shrimps are still OK. Moved my peppermint shrimps into another 90L inside the house that is supposed to be my Quarantine tank. The other tank outside, the 1.2 tank, about 240L is a lot more stable. Same spot in the sun, but temps movements are better.

    But enjoy the play pen.

Slagter if you can, do that Auto temp controller + ATO mod I did. It makes your life WAY easier. The tank becomes a lot more stable once they have been done.

    Thanks guys...

I'll definitely look into doing that ATC and ATO mods on the tank. I'm just going to play with it for a while and see what happens. Should be a fun little project.

There is water and there is salt. Battling to get the salinity up though. I used 1/3 more than I'd usually use on a system this size. But hopefully it's cool now. I'll test it again in a few minutes.

I'm going to add some sea floor grade Aragonite as the substrate and I'm going to pull some of the LR out of my main system. There will be no fish in this tank for at least 2 months so the risk of a Brook infection spreading to this tank will be minimal.

    Pics coming tomorrow!

    Patience, young Skywalker... LOL!

I have the SG at 1.024! Added some of the LR out of my main display and I'm really quite chuffed! Looks nice. I'll post pics once the water clears a little.

I agree!! Pics please! My poor nano is so stuffed with LR,I don't have any space to create a "display" I don't think I need a filter anymore! Your experiment should be very successful.
