Thers alot of detritus in your ceramic rings. Getting rid of the detritus should help with the algae issue

I think what you see there is beach sand. I put 5lt of sand from the beach to help get things going when I started the tank. Should I take it out?

Hi Rick. He is doing superb. He eats like a pig pellets and frozen. I got him from Idol Marine, paid a little premium but he is super healthy.

I would take it out. It is taking away the surface area for the rings to do there job and its just helping the detritus to settle and will create problems.

Thanks I will do just that. Should I wash the rings at the same time?

Don't wash the rings as they already have bacteria on them. Just give them a slight rinse in some of the tank water, just to get rid of the sand.
