So i finally have a tank worth posting :) I am a keen reefer, started on a TL5500 have had it almost 2 years, 2 weeks ago i took the leap and ordered a 4ft tank about 360litres from my lfs

Still in my cycling process (2nd week) once tank is ready i will transfer everything over from my TL

Thus far got the following
  • Custom LED setup in hood, has a remote and about 16 colours and settings and what not (for viewing purposes only)
  • Bubble Magus C3.5 Skimmer
  • 4000l/ph return pump
  • 500watt heater
  • about 70lt sump 4 chambers (sealed unit)
  • DIY auto top up unit
  • Various small bits and bobs like digital thermometer, wavemaker, constant ammonia detector, internal power filter ect
  • Did a nice upgrade in sump area with a 10watt flood light plan is to grow some chaeto
  • Oddyssea Quad T5 lighting with moonlight
Might have forgotten some things

this weeks focus is mainly to tidy my wiring up , timers will only be transferred once my cycle is done

Will update as i go along

some pics

Nice looking tank. Lots of potenial. I would remove the sponge from the overflow. Also I would remove the ceramic rings as they are known nitrate factories (the bioballs as well). I will replace the rings with seachem Matrix or even Orca Bio cubes. If you want to keep the bio balls you will need to give them a stir every now and then or else they trap detris which in turn add to your nitrates.

Very nice setup, hope you enjoy every minute of it! :)
Is that little box on the left built into the display tank?

Your tank is starting to take shape, I like the arc style rockscape :)
Looking forward to seeing the final scape!

thanks i am not the greatest when it comes to scaping but super excited myself to see what i can do once i have all my rocks in

@FoundNemo I would rather remove the dsb as they are only really effective if the surface area is at least 80% of the surface area of your display and leave the cheato in there by itself.

O right hahaha didnt know that :) thanks for the headsup, I am planning on replacing it with orca bio cubes just waiting for my lfs to get it in, i did the dsb like that as sand is from my old tank so want to help it seed, the balance i threw in the display tank

That is not how a DSB should work. Yours is a sand filter as in swimming pool setup. A DSB should have water running across it, and not through it. The top part of the sand is aerobic. The bottom part becomes oxygen deprived and therefor anaerobic. With a flow through setup you got only the aerobic part. It will do wonders with the first part of the nitrogen cycle, but will not complete it.

Rather replace with Seachem Matrix. It does the same job as a DSB. Although when setup in a fast flow area it will be mostly aerobic. Slow flow will tend to become more anaerobic.

After a power cut not so long ago, my tank reverse siphoned itself and had to clean it 1am not fun, even after I had my holes drilled in the pipe.

So I fitted a BIG BOY none return valve and a shut off (pics attached)

Added a Dosing pump gonna dose
Calcium Chloride
Magnesium Chloride
Baking Soda

Also added a distribution board to my hardware list, cleaned up all the wiring as well also 2 timers for my lights. This mod was 2 days worth of work but so worth it. O and a 12v fan mod which i had on another thread works very well
