I have started with a 110l tank about 3weeks back.and just really loving this hobby and good hooked. Ive had malawi freshwater tanks years back.but nothing compares to this.
just picked up my 1200x450x550 tank today.stand im busy covering with hamerite paint. Sump should be here by friday.1m long. Not sure which skimmer I should get. Octo 1000 I recon should do the trick as its up to 800l skimming. Sump will have space for dsb and have bubble traps.
whole already drilled in back of DT
1st pic is my current tank running.

Normal beach sand or caribsea fiji pink. I know i also looked at that for my tank and decided on normal sand.

You can also look at red devil skimmers or the bubble magnus as well. Just as good.

Yes beach sand does work very nice. Maybe look at jungle aquatics website. They sell 18.9kg fiji pink i think and do free shipping. Thats also an option and its more sand.

    Which reef octo skimmer?
Ts4 might be a bit of an overkill for that size tank

Need to wash my sand when I get home later. Normal aragonite. T5 quad light unit.bit dissapointed on that.its a 1.2m.but the bracket overhangs my tank.so I need to make some modd to fit..
anyway.i got the reef octo skimmer new at a very good price.i see I will need to lower my bottom sump bracket in order for the skimmer to fit.wil mod that tomorrow with some welding and cutting.will post some pics little later

TS4 is a bit on the large size for this setup.

Does it have one or 2 feeder pumps?

Dont want to fill tank with sand yet.need to remove and mode my stand a bit tomorrow.
what can I do to the light fitting to make it fit nice.must be honest.its a crap design and overhangs my 1.2m tank.
I have a 3500l/h return pump . should work nice.

You could make a bracket that fits on your stand, coming up at the back of the tank, from which you could hang the unit?

My roof is infact higher up than normal.so the hang idea wont work unfortunately. @Gesiggie.ive thought of that idea.but then I need to find a very good looking bracket . maybe I will make I nice looking one that can fit over the edges of tank and cover with some rubber sleeving
