So i finally got my tank up and running on sunday.
    Heres what i got:

    1.2m dt with corner overflow
    4 X 54 watt T5s
    Np pellet reactor
    600lt rated skimmer
Resun CL-280 chiller unit(with custom intank thermo probe)
    Eheim 300watt heater
    60kg well washed play sand
10kg Live rock(will soon add more)
    13kg base rock
    4000lt return pump
    and few odds and ends.

I have been dosing Seachem Stability everyday and did a test yesterday:
    Temp 24-25C
    Nitrate 0
    Nitrite 0
    Amonia 0
    PH 8.4
    SG 1.023

I have a problem with testing the phosphate and calcium. I use the API Reef masters test kit and I have some how managed to missplace the colour cards for those 2 tests. If anyone can help with a scan of their or spares they might have that would be great.

Let me know what you think.

Dont bother. you are waisting your time trying to measure PO4 and Ca with them. they are not nearly sensitive enough for a reef aquarium.

Good start to your tank, but sideways pic is hurting my neck. :p

I use Salifert test kits and find them fairly consistent and accurate, although for Phosphate I use Tropic Marin.

    Hey thanks guys.

Iv been using API for my fresh water for over 5 years and never had a problem with it, so I bought the salt water kit. So just gona use that until I can get around to buying another test kit.

The blue fans are just to help circulate the air into the cupboard for the chiller unit cause I havnt had a chance to cut out holes at the back of the cabinet yet.

Hey Spikester dig the blue fans, what type and where did you get them from, i want to add some on my haliea chiller, as its also in a cupboard and have a diy desk fan blowing on it and my cupboard doors have to stay open, which seems to be quite a lazy mans way of doing it lol.

@WarrenElvis they just normal 80cm computer fans that i have running off an old computer power supply. They only blue cause thats all i could get from my supplier.
You should be able to get them from any computer gamming shop and they work quite well, as for moisture prufe i highly doubt it but for R80 for 2 who really cares.
As soon as I cut the back of the cabinet ill move them to there so they can suck the hot air out. The door will have a mesh instead of being solid so that the chiller can get cold air from the front and the pc fans will expell the hot air created by the chiller out the back.
I also have them in the sump area of the cabnet blowing the air out the back to try and reduce the moisture in the air in the cabinet. I have sealed the wood but i suppose you can never be to safe when it comes to wood and water.

Much better, thanks  Nice to see all the screwdrivers and drillbits there, DIY is always so much more fun. :)

Well i am a bit of a DIY guy. Built the cabinet myself(there are doors, just left them off for now to make it easier to work on the sump. Did the corner over flow in the tank.
Had to rebuild half the chiller(needed new bushes and an oil up for the fan and the thermostat needed a bit of work).

Im really excited about this tank, first try at marines so it a big learning experience. Had FW for over 5 years and its nothing on this.

    So here is another update:

    Day 11 water test:
    Temp 25C
    Nitrate 0
    Nitrite 0
    Amonia 0
    PH 8.4
    SG 1.024
    Phosphate: 0ppm

The nitrates have dropped back to zero again, not sure why.
My Np pellet reactor is running but I only have 2/3 of the pellets in so far cause i was told to add 1/3 a week. The skimmer is creating foam but nowhere near enough to flow over into the cup, im guess thats cause there isnt enough in the water to skim.

I was told that I should put a few fish food flakes in to help the growth of the tank, is this a good idea?
I have finished doasing an entire 250ml bottle of Seachem Stability.

Is there anything else I should do to help the tank or is it just a waiting game now?

I will be adding another 8kg of live rock as soon as payday arrives so im guessing that will help too.
There is a redish brown forming on the one part of the dt sand, should i do something about it or just leave it for now?

    Any help/advise would be great...

The reddish brown you're talking about are called diatoms - perfectly natural in a new tank so just leave it and it'll go away.

    Good looking tank.
