That is my heater over the dsb,the dsb is about 15 cm deep, ive got a macro aqua, not that good but with a 1200l/h pump attached to it,I stil want to get some phosphate remover and carbon but want to run the ceramics cause I got some livestock to early(2 damsels, firegoby, anemone crab, boxing shrimp) so I need to keep the nitrates low,but wil that rougher grain aragonite balls in the dsb work as a lot of people told me the grainsize is to big

Nice looking setup, i like the mirror on the top. I have to agree with Mekaeel and ditch the bio rings they are an absolute nitrate factory and will eventually result in a hair algae farm.

Your DSB looks fine, just the finer sand should have been on the bottom, not that big a deal though as i moved one of my sand beds recently and ended up with the finer stuff on the top aswell. Yip get rid of the ceramic rings in the canaster.

Mekaeel I dont understand, are you talking about the aragonite balls at the bottom of my dsb or what?will take the ceramics out as soon as I get home, the only thing that bothers me is the I dont have anything to keep my nitrates down or what do you guys think, whil my 2 damsels survive it without that and the other question is wil my dsb develope if my canister is doing al the work?

Hi, the live rock is quite capable of de nitrifiying, just remove the ceramic rings a few at a time over a couple of weeks and the bacteria in the liverock will pick up the slack, looks a good start, just go slowly, remember nothing good happens quickly:)

Welcome to MASA Franske - your tank is starting up nicely. The guys already gave you some decent info..... Good luck and keep us posted.

BTW: could you please still post the water parameters for us? (ie. pH, SG/salinity, temp, ammonia/nitrite/nitrates, phosphates, etc...)

Thanks alot for all the info, meaeel that little bit of white stuff on top of the dsb is only a bt of crushed coral to keep the sand from moving at that spot,is that what you are talking about, here are some parameters
sg 1.025
temp 27 degrees
nitrates +- 5
ph 8.1
Havent tested phosphates etc, what other important parameters are there that I must test now
Another question is what length tube is a 54 watt t5 and can I run lower wattage t5s on a 54 watt ballast

Cool so id rather not try that then, ive got a small pump that pumps around 500l/h and I want to know if I put some phosphate remover in it and is the flow strong enough
