Well after doing some reading on this site and trying to learn more on marines ive finally taken the plounge and started my own little peice of ocean.

Got a buyo last week.Duno what it is as its smaller than a TL 550 but bigger than a TL 450.Its a 82L.Its got only 3 chambers at the back.Left is the overflow. And return is on the right. And its got a 24w light and not a 18w.

Been running sea water sins Saturday.Placed a order on Monday with Lanzo, and got everything last night.( +- 1500km away) Thanks Lanzo for the best service i got in a LOOOOONG time!!

Removed everything at the back and placed LR rubble in the overflow chamber with filter floss on top. 9kg Araga-max alive for substrate. +- 4 kg matured LR (lots of cool little things moving and some corals.Dunno what they are but their cool!)

Added stability and going to ad Matrix Carbon and cheni-pure elite later today.

So just waiting for the cycle to finish.

    Hi Evo ,

    Good to have you here.

Just a couple of points :

    1. If I inderstand you correctly, you have filter floss on top of the LR rubble ? Not the best way to do it IMO, since you will get detritus accumulating on the LR rubble as time goes by. This will cause some Nitrate issues for you in the long run.
Rather remove the floss and run with just the LR, but remember that you will need to clean this occasionally.

    2. You don't mention it specifically, but do you have a skimmer running and if so what size ?

    3. You don't need to add both Carbon and Chemi-Pure Elite. Chemi-Pure Elite already contains carbon and Phos. removal compounds.

    4. You need to get more LR into the system. 4kg's is way too little for your water volume. Rule of thumb is approx 100g of LR for every liter of water. So in your case you would need approx 9 kg's

And lastly , of course it would be great if you could post some pics of your setup ;)

Tank has been running for 6 days now and just did a water test.

    PH - 8.2
    NH3- 0.0
    NH4 - 0.1
    NO2 - 0
    NO3 - 2

Just a quick Q.Found some small spots of red on my LR wich looks like algae.
    Is this good or bad??

    Regards

Evo, you would need to post a pic of the LR . Impossible to say for sure without a pic, although it's probably either coralline , red algae or the start of some cyano.

I wouldn't worry about it, since your tank has just started its cycle so it's all pretty normal to have algae blooms .;)
