    Hi all,

Been wanting to start a thread like this for quite some time now, (if it seems useless, mods please close) as I would like to "document" how one evolves in this hobby, how our needs changes, how we get screwed over by the LFS and how we eventually get to the system we think will last us forever....yeah right ;)

Apologies, been hectic, but here goes...enter Aug / Sep 2008

Never was really into Marines(prices of the fish seemed too expensive),also never really saw a reef tank in person, but it all started visiting my brother on one saturday. He had a little hex tank (40L or so ), lets call it a nana-nano,internal filter, a piece of rock and 2 nemos, o yes an a cute anemone

Wow this looked cool ! Considering myself a amateur biologist....and having kept FW all my life , tarantulas, snakes and such...how hard could this be ;)

Over the next 2 / 3 weeks I was toying with the idea of starting a nemo tank (even showed the movie to my wife again) and off to the LFS it was...only problem the only tank I had was my oscar breeding tank.

No worries though, I found a 25 L nano nano nano tank (till today not sure where it came from ) in the wendyhouse. After about 5 minutes worth of advice from the LFS (the PTA guys will know who I am talking about :whistling: ) I left the shop with 3 kg live rock, box of TM salt, water conditioner (was actually meant for fresh water but what the hell), a cleaner shrimp and Nemo of course

I was ready to rock & roll :yeahdude:

Just to prove that i am not writing a fictional story here is a pic of the my first marine tank !

Ok it was filled up with tap water, salt added , heater put in and the rocks put in. At least he gave me a hydrometer as well. Soon everything looked ok (didnt know what the SG really should be but the little thingy was floating at the green bar so it must be right)

Now added the LS, first in went Nemo and secondly the little shrimp, no dripping and to be honest not even floating of the bags...the tank was just too small. Needless to say the cleaner shrimp lasted about an hour before going into the big ocean in the sky.

Wasnt my fualt ....the thing was probably just sick

LOL Crispin....I love that little bugger.

The next step was at least to have my water tested by a fellow reefer as I understood if it tests 100 %, ready to start adding !

So next day mr liniar flow (;)) was here with a Red Sea Kit, and wonder by wonder everything was cool. So off to the LFS the next day...got to "normal Nemos" to keep that one company....never could understand why they only lasted a week

    That is so wrong,
Started my first one or first real one now, reading about marines almost a year now.
Maybe he did tell you to start with water and LR first and later the fish or didn't he?
