    Afternoon to all.

I decided to take a leap and post my tank...

    Quick info:

    Display - 1800 x 500 x 610 - 10mm glass
    Sump - 1700 x 400 x 340 - 6mm glass

    Skimmer : Reef Octopus 160XS
    Heating : 1 x 200w Jager
    1 x 300w Natural

    Return pump 4500l/h

The plan is to make it a FOWLR. This will give me the opportunity to get a good understanding of the hobby...

Here is a few pics. The rock is diy live rock. ( It will be filled by the end of the week ) and excuse the photos, not my best effort.
    Any comments will be appreciated.

Awesome skills with the DIY rock man:thumbup:, are you going to add a few kg live rock just to seed the DIY's?

Kunhardt, I have a dsb in my sump, I just need to move the sand around a bit, but I do have a deep bed of sand in the ds.

Annoying thanks man, I will be adding a bit of live rock to seed my rock. I just need to go and get it this week.

But the filling of the tank is first priority

belindamotion, the making of the rock is very fun. You can create anything you want. Its just a very long process to get them to the point where they are ready to put in your tank.

Just a question... I know lighting is not as important in a FO tank as in a tank with corals, but I would like to know what combination of lights will bring out the color of my fish the best? This will be a diy project until the tank is done cycling and until its time to go to university.

For colours you want the purple and blue spectrum. The best would be a combination of four lights (can be T8) or two lights (T5):

    Four lights:
1 x 10000K (or else the tank will be too purple)
    1 x 14000K
    1 x Actinic
    1 x aqua blue

    Two lights:
    1 x 14000K
    1 x aquablue

I would prefer the two type globe one if you want for just fish only, I put in the 4 light one for if you are thinking of going reef in a later stage.

I am planning on keeping a few butterfly fish and perhaps an angel at a later stage.

I hope you planning on Pomacanthus angels!!!
Get the usual CUYC youd get for a reef tank, so hermits, cleaner shrimp (boxer shrimp if you planning n larger buterflyfish), a few turbo snails and some nassarius snails.
Your tank looks pretty sterile, so i wouldnt add too many to start with, rather add a few and then add as the need arises.

I am still doing research about angel fish but I would really like to have one or two with a few butterflies around.
What angel fish can be recommended for a 1.8m tank?
