Hi All,

Been a while since I posted something so I thought I'll share my new journey with you guys. So, I have been wanting a new tank for a long while now "one without scrathes"! So I started looking around and finally decided to go custom. I purchased the glass and was going to build the tank myself but, then I got the great news of being told I need to move, as the house I rented was sold. Hmmm :banghead: knew it was coming but did not expect it that soon. So I had the tank assembled for me hoping to get it up and running before the move so it can be just a straight forward swap and go.

Needless to say non of that happened so I had a horrible move and there was a miscommunication between myself, the agent and the new owner, and they started moving in the day I had to move my tank so it was a :censored: day for me, the move ended with me losing 2 fish and 2 anemones!! I was not a happy chappie.

Then came my tank build! The guy that supplied the glass to me gave me the wrong sides so I had to get the swapped and re-polished as the glass supplied was not polished. Then we found that the braces were still a couple of mm to long, so I took the glass back to the guys that helped me to polish it. We agreed that the amount that needed to be taken off will not be viable to cut as it will break the glass so they need to polish it off and it will take a week as they are busy. Then later that week I got a call to say they are going to do my glass today so they will call me when done, half an hour later got a call: "ahmm sorry sir they tried to cut your glass and it broke:cursing::cursing::cursing:". I then had to buy new glass as own glass gets done at customers own risk. Then the guys that build my overflow box for me screwed up as well, delays, delays and more delays.

At the end of the day, If anything came out of this is, the realisation that if you want a new custom tank, go to a tank builder, get them to do it for you!! They source everything you just get a tank.

I finally received my tank about 2 weeks ago and started working on it slowly as now there is no rush for it to get done quickly.

So, here my journey finally starts

I built a wooden stand in December already waiting for the tank :m16:

The long awaited tank arrived

Layed down the base board and added in the substrate, my son thought it can be his fort :m06:

Started building the cupboard around the frame.

And then today completed the tank plumbing, painted the back glass and fitted the front doors. Still need to add the door handles and so on.

May the tank only give me great pleasure from here on forward and some happy reefing :swim:

I'll continue posting pics and updates as my journey progresses.

This looks like it's going it be an awesome setup!! Looking forward to the updates. Let's hope it's a lot smoother from here on out:1:

You put some work into your electrical box. It looks very very nice. Why do you have 18 plugs though? Are you going to use all of them?

There are 3 extra, 2 of them I want to use for my water changes 1 pump in and 1 pump out but, I still need figure that process out.

I didn't think one would need so many plugs. How are you going to get power to them, connecting all of them together? I like that water change idea that will beat carrying heavy buckets any day:lol:

18 PLUG POINTS...

You made sure you will not run out of points. Looks awesome.

No they will all run individually, as I eventually want to try my hand at building my own reef pi like controller that will manage everything for me.

Will tap ideas from electricians when I get there :m28:

Where is the best place to position your dosing pump? I always just had it by my return pump.

Looks great - what size is your tank? Any plans for lighting? You many want to swop out some of those 3 prong plug fittings for dual 2 prongs, or even ones with 5v USB power, depending on what you may be using in the future.

Thanks, I have a zet 6600 led unit and a DIY T5 unit that I will be moving over from my old tank when I transfer everything. I will go and look at the 2 prongs today, I actually forgot about it.

So, I'm almost done with my cupboard and I went and got some 2 prong plug points today so I can swap it out. Will do that this week coming.

I got some help painting :m01:
