    Hi

I have been working on setting up my first marine tank I have been running a 1.5m malawi tank for around 10 years and have always wanted a marine tank

I ordered a 1000 x 600 x 600H(+/- 300L) with sump(100L) tank, it will only be ready in about 2 weeks but I would like to make sure I have all I need for the initial setup

I would like to set up a reef tank(one day) I'm looking at around 6/8 fish, correls and inverts, I am mainly interested in keeping shrimps

I just have a couple of questions

After alloooot of reading I found I can have playsand and no aragonite in my dt and dsb?

For the top ups would I use RO water?
Water changes would I then mix salt with RO?

As far as I understand I need the following

    Skimmer
    Saltwater Heaters
    Return pump

Powerheads(when I start to stock the tank)

Lights ( Ive been looking at 2 lights (600mm long) which holds 4 T5 tubes)
    Do I need a moonlight?

Is it necassary to have "dead"/stock rock with live rock?

    Salt

Test kits and supplements for whatever i have in the tank

Please let me know if I'm missing something i don't know if I need any reactors etc.

Any advice for initial setup would be greatly appriciated
    Thanks

    Hi Slagter

    Thanks for the Info

It is a biiiig help, seems the pet shops just wanna sell sell sell arggg...

I can now atleast get going on the budgets LOL

I will upload pics as soon as the tank is ready

I do have another question about the auto top ups

Lets say you have a upsidedown 2lt bottle in the sump filled with RO water and nozzle at max water level it would fill up only to max level as needed

Would this work as I dont see that the water in the bottle would really mix with the rest of the water and should not affect the pH Etc.

I was thinking I could set up something with a 10/20L canister I have

    Any drawbacks?

It might be a bit loud and violent when it releases water but the concept should work, best to give it a trial run and see how it goes before making it a permanent fixture.
