Hi all

So this is my second thread I am creating, i am still very new in this hobby, just 1 year and my only tank is the boyu 550. I introduced myself already and mentioned that I will be building a bigger tank in the near future. So the time has come.

It will be a 120cm length x 50cm Height and 60cm Width rimless tank built from 12mm optic white glass with black sealant. the overflow box will be in the center and will have 1 overflow pipe, 1 emergency overflow pipe and a return pipe splitting into 2. their will be no background on the tank, it will be clean and i will try and keep it clean as possible as i dont want any algea to grow on it.
The sump will be a 120cm x 40cm width x 40cm height, with a filtering system on the left using 2 filter socks then the next chamber will be the protein skimmer, next chamber will be the refugium for macroalgea and some type of media and then the last chamber will be for the uplift pump.

Im planning on having a minimalist display tank with 2 islands, the one for lps and sps and the other side for some softies.

The livestock i would like to have in this tank will be the following:

2 clowns (from boyu tank)
1 regal tang (from boyu tank)
1 purple tang
1 yellow tang
1 naso tang
3 antheas
3 chromies
1 manderin goby
1 orange dotted sand sifting goby

for the clean up crew i would like to have the following

1 blue hermit crab (from boyu tank)
1 nassarius snail (from boyu tank)
1 mexican snail (from boyu tank)
1 fire shrimp (from boyu tank)
2 pepperment shrimps
2 harlequin shrimps (pair)
2 cleaner shrimps

For the hardware I would like to have the following

1 7300 zetlight
1 zetlight macroalgea light
1 bubble magnus curve 7 protein skimmer
1 smart ATO
2 Jeboa OW25 wave makers
1 Jeboa 4000 uplift pump
2 heaters running from an STC 1000 controller

I will post pictures as i progress, feel free to give me some tips and advice, i am very willing to learn from the experienced reefers.

So the overflow box was a headache for me, i didnt really know what i wanted, so i bought tinted glass and was planning on putting a piece of perspex on top with slots but it wasnt the look that i wanted, the reason is it is not so easy to clean perspex after a while and it just wont look the way i want it to be. so i had another idea and did some shopping to get it sorted, it took me 4 weeks to get this problem solved due to people wasting my time, but hey sometimes the long wait is worth it.

In the meanwhile the guy built my steel frame and we put it in place to see what it looks like. it will be sent away for galvanizing and for white powder coating.

so this was a little drawing i made for the sump i wanted, take note that the chamber on the left was changed so that the water would not overflow out of the tank if it should have get clogged up or something.

So eventually after a few weeks I got the frame back all nicely powder coated, i got the overflow box waterjet cutted and i was very happy to see the end result. and the best part of it all was that it was time to assemble the sump:)

So when the sump was done we decided to do the display tank but only to see that 2 panels wasnt the right size so the tank build had to be postponed again, it was about 11pm, we had a nice fire to make some chops with the build

the next part was very difficult for me, this was the get the zetlight hanging from the roof and not to be skew.
I did not know how to do this, and believe it or not, the fiance had a plan, she went to the broom cupboard and brought me a feather dusted that could extend, so we used this with a level the make sure it sits spot on( i could not have done this without her help)

So next up i had to build my control panel where i will be controlling whatever i can, i always struggled with the boyu tanks controls when i wanted to feed the fish, i always had to switch off the whole system because the plugs where hard to reach, so my plan was to have a nice control panel on the side of the tank that will be accessible very easily.

so next up was to finalize the plumbing, i got a gatevalve that i will be using to adjust the water level in the overflow box and 2 ball valves for when i want to add reactors, the pipe sizes is 32mm for the over flow and for the return from the display tank but will be 25mm from the pump because that is the size hard pipe that will fit the pump.
