    Hey guys

Jus started about a 1.5 with my first tank! Will post picks shortly of my tank chronologically later.

Due to the scientific nature I really enjoy it!

    Hi all

I have a tank dimensions are 121x44x52 (in cm)
61x32x30.5 sump. The tank is 1.5 mnths old. Finished cycling and got two hermits, 1 shrimp, a bicolor blenny, regal tang and two clowns. I also have a favia coral (thanks for the id guys) and some livE rock seeding my tank. I have a reeftek modded Ts1 skimmer

I have a aquablue 39w t5ho and a white 10000k. I will be installing another actinic and white light.

I am treating on alternate days with caribsea purple up a 1/4 cap and reef success calk to get the coraline algae going. Did some seeding and it is starting to appear every where!

    To do:
    Buy:
    Chiller
Build calcium reactor, a denitrator, phosphate reactor and auto top.
Install siemens plc to control all of this better!!!!!

Thanks guys for all the help so far!!!
If you can give any advice I will appreciate!!!

    Thanks guys!
    Willie

I want to cOme and collect but my ballast will only this week? Don't think it will be to health for them with just one set of lights?

Please ensure you are testing your calcium and alkalinity levels when using these additives to make sure you don't overdose. See here for recommended parameters - Ideal Water Parameters - Marine Aquariums of South Africa

I got the tank like this

Then I did the big cleanup, put some live rock in and used all the dead rock the previous owner had.

It was a bit stacked And I still had my blasted Jebo skimmer
    [IMG]

Then had some salininity issues and after sorting that all out, My tank cycled !

Lots of the brown algae. Got myself some hermits to help clean andthen bought a Reeftek Ts1 and relandscape the whole tank !

My shiny new Skimmer and my tank with the moonlight Led's I DIY'd from and electronic shop !

Now I have put in my clowns.

Two weeks later I have put in a blennie, a shrimp and a Blue tang.

Now to upgrade lighting and get my starter corals !

    Any comments or advice ?

Great start there man! It's amazing what a little creativity and a bit of elbow grease can do to an old looking tank!

Just as a side note... I see you have bought yourself a Blue Tang... Is it a Powder Blue, or a Regal Tang? Just so you know, a regal tang gets huge. Far too big for your 1.2m. A Powder Blue is also not the best bet for a tank of that size. Let's see some pics of the fish!

    Hey Slagter

It is a Regal tang. She still a baby right now. I have noticed today her ich is gone but she is still rubbing herself against the rocks ???? Should I still get muti ?

I'm not sure... It could still be the ich parasite, or it could be a host of other parasites that cause fish to flick themselves against rocks... If the fish is eating well, then leave it for now. But make sure you feed it good quality foods packed with vitamins! Ocean Nutrition, Omega one, etc... Frozen and flakes.... Good Luck...

PS: The Regal Tang grows to around 40cm... You'll need to sell her before she gets too big.

Agreed, 9 times out of 10 the fish sort themselves out if they are feeding well, however, if it does get bad and doesn't go away then you will need to consider treatment, preferably in a separate tank.

How long has the tang been in the tank?

    Hey Cassie!

Cleaned it myself until I found the joys of a bicolor blenny!!!

They do an awesome job! The hermits worked the rock for me!

    Hi Cassie

One only.... I have been told if you have two you will end up with them playing pistols at dawn ;-). The will kill each other just keep on (So I have been told). Get some Turbo Snails - They do the trick. Only problem is they are hard to come by!!!!

According to my research they clean algae very well!!!

I look at your tank blog and it seems to me that it is still cycling ! Mine only took 3.5 weeks !

Had some anomalies that I think caused it to cycle quicker. Just had another test at LFS and my water is IDEAL.. Gonna be putting some corals in now ;-)

    Good luck !

    Hi Williet

Lovely setup and I really like your aquascaping
I have the same size tank and the same overflow...

One suggestion....Will it be possible for you to suspend/raise your tank's canopy?
Reason why I ask is, those canopies don't have great airflow and heat will be a factor to deal with and Durban is warm most of the time. You did mention of getting a chiller, but condensation may damage your lights. I had to raise mine to give it more airflow and it is just easier to work on the tank.

Keep it up mate, looking great!

    Hey SumFishy

10 - 4 on that ! I will be changing my hood shortly - DIY RULES!!! At the moment I have these extreme PC cooling fans in my hood that keeps my temperature down and condensation out ! It obviously forces me to do a lot of top ups !

Looking good Willie, that's a seriously big rock on the right hand side of the tank, any idea how much it weighed?
