I have been planning this setup for months now!! i have finally moved in into my new place which means things are starting to take place.

Sure, it will only be another week (i hope) until water is in. but tank should be done by friday. Saturday we will see the plumbing go in!

So, i dont have picture yet to show you of the setup. however, i will show you pics of all the research i have done so far with a bit of a right up.

    Enjoy this thread guys

    Research:

Okay, so why did i choose the fiji lagoon biotope?

    why a biotope?

i did not want a mixed reef (fruit salad type setup). i wanted something controlled and natural. all my FW setups were biotope (malawi, amazon, etc) and i wanted to recreate that setup in a marine world.

    Why Fiji?

Fiji is known as the soft coral capital of the world! im going to keep mostly softies/lps so i thought it would be a good start. another thing is that many fish are from that area so that means i can buy a flame angel from america, but you also find them in Fiji. i can get a long nose butterfly from Kenya shipment, but it is also found in fiji. you get the point.

    Why lagoon?

Well, i love a simplistic scaping with a ton of swimming place. this is what you will find in a lagoon. all my fish will be lagoon fish. found from 1-8m of water. once again controlling what i put it.

Photos of a fiji lagoon (not my photos):

    Lagoon is the inside section:

    Live Stock

Fish, Fish, Fish! Corals and Rock

I wont be giving you a definitive list right now! but to choose my list i have been using Fishbase, wwm.com and occasionally liveaquria.com. i am wanting more smaller fish than fewer larger fish in my std 4ft tank. that said, i am wanting one show piece beauty!

    Fish like...:

would love this.. but not paying R900!!

Apogon cyanosoma, are such beauties and i will be having a school of them. chromis and anthias are a must and a flame angel. hopefully a few unusual damsels too. so far so good

    Live rock:

i have around 10kg's of biorock sitting at home at the moment and around 15kg's of liverock of malaysia sitting at a lfs for me.

    Corals:

leathers, lps and very little sps. in the lagoon you dont find much sps unless its close to the reefcrest. however, sps will be ontop of my pillars thats all

For me, this must be an art. i want it to look beautiful!

Below are tanks that i have come across which have become an inspiration for me. each one is different i guess. i am wanting pinnacles so that my plan

This tank specifically is the same biotope as what mine will be!

Lagoon tank.. too simple for my taste but still something that i am looking at for inspiration:

I am wanting pillars with lps/softies at the bottom and sps at the top. this pic kinda shows what i am aiming for:

    and the beautiful GBD tank:

    6 x 120cm T5's (3x 20000k & 3x 12000k)

    3000l/hr seio

    Filled up

was able to fill this baby up today!! forgot what a mission it was to full a tank. 200+ liters later and im done... rock work turned out pretty much what i was wanting but no expecting. really keen to wait for it to clear and then light her up. lighting will be hung from the ceiling.

pic of her filled to the brim. going to floss her and im sure by the end of the week and i can show you guys a pic of a clean tank
