So...i built this unit about 6 months ago..and I thought. ...seeing as allot of people are building their own units..I'd showcase mine

So...I'd had a perspex box built...I'd know a guy...dimensions are 900x400x50...
I have a meanwell eln6048D... (dimmable) connected in parallel. .24 full spectrum leds @ 1.2ma. In the middle of my tank..it s got a 120 degree spread, so covers the whole tank...dimensions of tank is 900x600..

On either side I have 20, 3w leds. .full spectrum. .not dimmable. . Which goes on 2 hours after the middle panel goes on and off 2 hours before middle panel goes off..so all in all I have 64 3w leds.......180w all together .

I worked on 3w per gallon of water. .that's what the recommendations were..

Nice work, looks very smart. Are you happy with the light you get out of it? How's coral growth?

Thx Viper. .I'm very happy with the lights. .i always had it in my mind, and im sure that many reefers do,that my tank should be lit up like a Christmas tree, but to be honest. My coral loves it..my colours are vivid on both coral and fish....and as for growth..i get really great results. .

Very nice. Im lioking at building a diy led for my 1,2m tank. How many leds do you have in series connected to a driver? I bought 110 diffetent colour leds, mainly white and blue, 10k to 20k white and between 400 and 460nm blue. Howw many of each colour would you suggest?

I have recently put a LED fixture together to fit in the hood of my RedSea max 250. I purchased the controller, drivers and led modules from reefll.com. Anybody considering a DIY project it is worth visiting the site as it has a very good write up on led lighting for reef tanks and it will give you good guide lines of what and how many of the different color led 's are required for your size tank. Use the wizard for your tank and it tells you how many units you will need and what size hea tsink is required.

Great job, busy with mine at the moment, almost finished I'm now at the fans, how is your temperature on the heatsink, did you hook the fans up to extract the heat or blow in cold air, was thinking to put a 140mm on top to extract and drill holes in the side where it will pull in cold air

Hi guys /girls
I've been trying to put together a led unit for my tank. And struggling to find leds at 10k or 20k. Any ideas?
Thanks

Very late reply..i know. .lol..growth was fine but not as well as I expected. .i changed the whole setup...and added 4 t5's ..2 blue. 1 white and 1 pink. .so now I'm. Running 24 uv and blue @1.4amps in parallel. .20 royal blues in series@600ma and 20.... 20k whites @ 600ma but only for 3 hours a day.
