Tank running for 2 months now, 3 kg live rock.

    Fish:
    Canthigaster Valentini
    Sargeant Damsel?
    Redfin Rockskipper (Salaria Fasciatus)

Boring to you experienced reefers. But made the move from fresh to saltwater and its much more interesting . Also had to budget.

Have a HOB mini jebo, via aqua internal filter for flow and a DIY overhead filter.

as long as the fish are happy and not just surviving.

I would add a bit of sea sand, and about 5 local hermits for clean up crew.

If you get a 20l bucket taller than the tank, you could make it a sump next to your tank. You could then put your skimmer, heater and other media or filters in there. Less cables and stuff!

    Thanks man. Have two hermits

Also how would I get the water in the 20l bucket to overflow correctly in the tank? good idea but just need to be advised on that.

Why don't you put a black or blue background?

Not boring at all, baby steps. You've got all the basics covered, well done on moving from fresh to salt.

Thanks man. I should do background soon however I try to stay away from sand. Always preferred bare bottom due to ease of cleaning.

Soon will have to improve lighting and maybe invest in a skimmer of I find a decently priced one.

Small starts are good, i have a similar low tech setup, only rely on skimmer, liverock and water changes. I would get a internal skimmer like mine, bubble magus qq or a tunze.

that's just the opposite way around. Usually tanks overflow to sump. Either way it will work yo hold your heaters etc. Just need the pump in display tank
also check out secondwavesa, they just advertised small skimmers for about R500

One thing to look out for when setting up a system like this is the syphon back into display. Your feed from pump should just be a cm or so under the water level in bucket sump. Too deep in the water and you will flood the DT when power goes out.
