Hi please could someone help, I discovered some dinoflagellates in my tank yesterday (Friday) and went on a reading spree to find something to kill it. I read on a couple of forums that adding some Vodka ( 10ml per 20l of water) . I added 2 caps of Vodka on Friday evening and again 2 caps on Saturday afternoon. I also read that increasing the PH of my water would kill the dinoflagellates. I also upped my PH to 8.4 with some Seachem PH buffer now my mushrooms are melting away!!! They are all dead and my BTA is not looking too great either!! Please help I just did a PWC and I hope that might help...Did I mess up my entire tank?! :( :( Almost forgot I have a RSM 250 params are as follows Amonia - 0 Nitrites - 0 Nitrates - 0 PH - 8.4 Salinity 1.025

Not sure where you read that.... more like 0.02ml per initial starting dose!!! Aerate the water as much as possible, skim the cr@p out of it, a few small water changes, carbon....
    Ouch dude!!!

Hope the Joburg okes see this and come to your rescue....

WHEN you read something somewhere, please ask before you do it....

you might have raised the PH to high, if you did a water change, dont do anything else today...

ok, post pics and we can see...
i dont think moving the livestock will help as that will be another change...
what was your PH before you made it 8.4? while the vodka might be the cause, you need to aerate your water, do you have a spare airpump?

my ph swings 0.2 at night, while i cant be sure if it was PH or vodka or both, i would leave the airpump in and get as much flow as possible, and not make any changes until the morning...
from there we can see, PM me in the morning of the status...
what other corals are there in the tank?
are you running carbon? how long have you had the anemone and mushrooms?

we have found that adding carbon can be a source of the problem. have seen it a couple of times on ccwilke system. the problem with carbon is that it doesn't only take out the bad. try removing the carbon and see what happens. just my 2c worth
