Definately a pic would help but the hammer could be shedding it's zooxanthellae. How long have the shrooms been in the tank and the hammer for that matter?

I have those same shrooms, mine go through stages of opening and closing, seemingly unrelated to anything I can put my finger on. Don't worry about it

I would be worried, if this is part of the coral, then something is eating it, or the coral is dying. Watch the coral at night and see if there are any predators around.

Are you dosing any calcium/alkalinity supplements?

Hammer corals are LPS and require both to survive. You will need to invest in both calcium and alkalinity test kits.

My bet is that both are low....

    Hi Charl

Also the reason for some of the corals not opening much, especially the shrooms, may be flow. Are they not maybe too close to a wave maker or return pump? The pic of the hammer seems to have quite a bit of water flow? I find my mushrooms open much less when i increase the flow over them.
