    Hey guys.

I bought a piece of rock containing four mushrooms two weeks ago. Placed them in my tank and they opened up beautifully. Last week thursday i did a water change using NSW i got from a sponsor and the next day one stopped opening up. I didn't think much of it but it started to go slightly white at the base.
Thought that was just me worrying to much. bout a day or two after that saw it started to lift off the rock. got home from work this afternoon and saw it was completely off the rock.
Additionally a second one has stopped opening and has started to lift off the rock.

On closer inspection on the second one i noticed a ribbon like thing on the underside. green edges and purple body but definitly rolled up like a ribbon. not sure if its part of the mushroom or some creature.

Now i have two questions firstly what could be causing this and second how can i attach the free shoom to a rock.

Will be attaching pictures later of the ribbon like thing

It could be one of two things, Either they are dying (hardly ever hppens as mushrooms in general are bullet proof) or they are spreading and multiplying.
When they move around they usually leave a small poiece of their foot behind which grows into a new piece. Could also be that the rock they came on got a bit crowded and thus the "lift off" happened.

Please post some pics as we cannot give accurate advice with out it.

i've attached two pics. the first is the second mushroom you can see the ribbon like item on the bottom right.

In the second pic the mushroom has started to release a slime. and the ribbon like thing is by its mouth.

Also mushroom that came off the rock came off with its whole foot also the rock isn't crowded

Its definatly splitting!! Which is a good thing! And remember all corals go into chemical warfare, meaning 2 is a crowd! And the other one that came off completly will float around till it finds a spot on a new rock, or you can place it in a crevice somewhere alse in your tank where you want it too grow and spread which it will do.

Second pic looks like it's got slim on it, could be bacterial infection.

Coming off the rock could be a result of to much flow.

How about a pic of when you got the rock.

Put them in a shallow tub, must be enough flow but not too much. Put substrate in the tub or coral rubble. Should attach I a week or so. Once foot has attached you can remove from tub and super glue attached substrate back to main rock. Just not to much flow.

Not sure you can do anything about that. Not sure if an iodine dip will help. Slosh it around in the iodine dip solution to get the slim off. Alternatively toss that shroom and remove as much slime from your tank.

Also google bacterial infection for coral.

The bigger one which was sliming has shrunken dramatically but ive placed it in a small bowl at the bottom of the tank and its seems to have stabilised. Ive also moved the other one to a position where there is less flow and it seems to okay.

Unfortunately they not as amazing as they once were but as long as they not dieing or getting worse im happy. Now its just about waiting.

That's good to hear, never nice when things go wrong with your corals.
