Hi, I am new to this Forum, and would like to start a Marine tank. I have always been involved with Tropical tanks and exotic fish. But left it a while back and will go this route now, or try atleast. I dont have anything as yet so it will be a fresh start and a expensive one i take. I am a male incase anyone was wondering.:slayer:

welcome to masa and the wonderful world of marines:)

starting out in marines can be a little daunting as there is a huge amount to learn over a fresh water system, but if you read through forums and ask us questions we will give you advice thats free and good for your tank:) many reefers on here have done all the mistakes and we will help you try avoide them:)

have you decided what sort of tank and what size tank you would like to start out with? Once you know what you like its far easier to buy equipment that is applicable to helping you achieve your goal tank. It saves a huge amount in the end:) Also there are many good second hand tanks or pieces of equipment on sale, read through the classified section on here and other south african forums and you should be able to afford a reef easier than you expect :)

    welcome and happy posting:)

Welcome to MASA Rochelle, glad you joined us. Marines are much more interesting than fresh water, also more difficult and much more expensive :( It is more rewarding too :)
To give you a better understanding, read the link in my signature - Starting a marine tank - this is very important if you want to learn about marines. You will find most of the basics there. Just remember marines is all about patience ;)
And please ask here before buying anything from a petshop, some shops will give you wrong advice and sell you stuff you don't need as some of them are only interested in your money or just doesn't know any better.
Contact our sponsors, these are great guys and will surely point you in the right direction :)
