    WOW, let us know how it goes. I must admit it really looks cool and both my son and I would want one, it reminds me of a light sabre!

    Looks like something a Jedi would carry. Just be careful if you have any kids bud, this is an extremely dangerous piece of equipment and apparently will burn your skin . But yeah i would dig one as well. Have fun and be safe:thumbup:

    Has anybody been on the Hartbeeshoek Radio Observatory tour? (they generally have it each year midwinter when the night skies are clearest)

    Anyhow, they have a trailer packed with equipment (NASA leavings, apparently), and a laser tracking pod mounted on it. The thing's lens is around a meter across. It's used for tracking satellites and space junk, they basically bounce a green laser off of the satellite.

    Seeing this thing in action is AWESOME. It's so powerul that it ionises the air going up, so you have this pulsing green beam of light that shoots into the night sky as far as the eye can see. Shades of Star Wars.

    Other than that, it's a fabulous tour with some nice (if cold) time spent stargazing through telescopes and things.
