If anybody remembers, I had an incident awhile ago where my Zoas were slowly disappearing. I was convinced something was eating them and eventually managed to fish out 3 crabs. This was about 2-3 months ago. Yesterday I was peering around my system and again realised the Zoas should be growing but instead appear to be shrinking... I whipped out my trusty head torch and peered around for 20 minutes or so and discovered 3(!!!) more crabs hiding about, once which is seriously the size of my palm. How on earth I missed him for so long I don't know. He looks a different type to the other 3 I've fished out so far (the previous crabs):

I managed to get the original guys out by watching every morning and then fishing out the same accessible LR when they happened to be sitting on it, however this is no longer possible as I did some aquascaping. I'm hoping the glass method will work but am trying to figure out what the best meaty treat is for these guys? Prawn? Calamari? Hake? I tried some hake last night but sadly only hermits in the glass this morning. :(

Has anybody had some success with being patient on this, i.e.: if I do this every day I *will* catch them?

Kinda fed up with the crabs, everytime I think I've got them all... :(

I know I got a white crab in my one tank. Small. I found its shed skin on the sand. Smaller that 5c coin, including legs. Yip, still have to find that one.

But I took 4 out already. One big black mother. 2 small ones with black claws and head part, lighter legs and back of the body. And a weird white big one who like to hide in the sand. They all are now in my refugium.

    Good luck

We had a monster crab a few months back that just got bigger and bigger and started eating our snails and hermits. It would pull the snails off the glass and then leave them on their backs till they opened and then attack! We tried for days to catch it with the glass method, even tried stabbing it in a fit of rage with a pointed stick! Eventually turned the glass on its side and 'herded' it into the glass and then quickly flipped the glass upright so it was trapped.

When I did a tank move. Did not even know they were there.

Big one I found when it run over my hand. Had a big fright. Almost dropped the big rock back into the tank. :)
Then i inspected each and every tock I took out. Obviously i missed the last small one.

Spied one in my tank the other night also. I had previously tried catching other ones but the only way i got them out was figuring out which rock the lived in and taking it out

    I forgot to mention...

    TADA!!!

Tall glass and some lancefish did the trick on night 3. Patience clearly does pay off.

My new supper crab catching devise has arrived!!!

Also found my hitchhiker crab "dead" in the corner of my tank, got excited, then realised it has moulted, e.g. it is getting bigger!

Lets see how the new trap works.

Can you give us some info and maybe a pic or 2. Where did you buy it and how much. I am looking for something, cause the glass trick only catches my hermits. Hehe

Will crabs take any meat? or is it best to go for seafood?

    like in beef?

    NO

Do not do that. Anything marine related rather. Shrimp, fish, mussel whatever.
