Just a heads up.. His chances of long term survival are dismal...
    This worked for me :
Crack open black mussel, attach with elastic band to liverock.
Turn loose bits of liverock upside down so he can get at the sponges and critters underneath.
Not practical in your case, but if you know someone at the coast.... Regular collection of sponges from rock pools, tie onto liverock , drop into tank... Eventually mine took sponges out my hand.
Cant remember the brand name ... A frozen fish food in a gel like substance, also attach to rocks with elastic bands and squuezed into crevices.
Bloodworm soaked in few drops selcon and garlic guard would have him pick a few out the water column.
Them taking flakes, pellets or any other food from water column is very rare, especially during first few months.
As mentioned, long term success with these beauties are the exception to the rule.

Yip!! Thats a Problem with Then. I Bought mine 4 Months back and is still going strong. I strugled the first two weeks to get him to feed, But Today He is eating like a PIG!! I feed a BIG variety of frozen foods as I Personaly think it helps with fish that strugles with eating! I have 3 Fish that started of not wanting to eat anything.

    Moorish Idol
    Cleaner Wrasse
    Fox Face

When I added these fish to my system they did not eat anything and slowly started eating selected foods, and Today they eat everything! I feed my Fish...

    Super Shrimp
    Brine Shrimp
    Mysis
    Red plankton
    Lobster Eggs
    Cyclops
    Marine Mix

One cube of each in a Glass every Evening an Some Nori every Morning!!

Good luck! They are really nice fish ones they are settled and eating!!

Juat something I forgot to mention, these fish really need big tanks to thrive. Anything less than 600 litres with loads of swimming space is going to end in a sad episode.

This is one thing i hate about most LFSs, they are in the money making business and don't care what fish they order. Moorish idols is just one of many fish to be left in the ocean. Seasoned reefers had them die, but not going into this now as it has been talked about a 100 times. Best of luck and i do hope he pulls through. They are one of the most beautiful fish out there.

a good way to start them is to parboil some peas and squash it into a piece of old coral rock. once they start taking the peas start adding frozen food pressed into the rock. We get idol juvies in late summer down here on the south coast, some of them eat better than others, but once they get going they'll eat anything. They love redbait as well.

I don't agree with you. You seldom see Moorish Idols at LFS's and they will always make sure the clients who buy them are experienced. As seen on earlier post there is people having success with them so why not sell them to the correct clients.

You do find guys having success, i know of many guys who had 2 or 3 even 5 until they had one that ate after all the tricks in the trade. I see them on a regular basis in Cape Town LFSs and most of them are non sponsors...

They often eat the sponges growing behind your rock work. I do agree though we can catch crap loads over here when they come in but I won't put one in my tank. Their survival rate is just not goid unless u have a big tank.
