    Hi Guys

    I have some Montipora issues.

In October last year I bought a blue-ish Montipora Digidata, upon putting it in the Aquarium I noticed it had a bit of tissue degeneration around it’s base – no I didn’t give it a dip in coral disinfectant before putting it in (not clever yes).

The tissue degeneration spread to all its branch bases – looked like I was going to lose it but then the upper branches started to grow and it has been growing ever since – despite the apparently dead tissue at its base.

Then my large well established green plating Monti with a purple lip which is nearby started to develop a similar tissue generation issue, the dead tissue is has been growing steadily through Jan.
Last night the white are it grew by at least 1.5cm.
I’m speculating some parasite is harassing it. Although I can’t see anything day or night.

My parameters are very stable so I’m not suspecting environmental stress. Got a few Acropora and they doing just fine which I kind of use as the bench mark conditions:

    SG 1025
    Temp 25 – 26
    Nitrate 0.2
    Phosphate 0.06
    CA 430
    KH 9.6
    Magnesium 1350

Taking the green Monti out for a bath not really feasible since it is large and attached to multiple pieces of rock.

Got a pink Monti on the other end of the tank and it appears to be indestructible – touch wood.

    Any ideas?

Suspect monti eating nudis. Check very carefully around the white edges where the tissue is gone.

Apologies if you have problems with me.

Seriously though, possible nudi issue or less likely, potassium. Pics would help

    Very funny Monti!

Been doing a lot of google. My suspects in order of probability are as follows:

Nudi’s - I can’t see any but the most effected Monti is in the middle of the tank a little way from the glass – could just be I can’t see them.

Fluctuating or low PH, I don’t have a PH probe other than on my calcium reactors controller so I can’t eliminate PH swings.

Never monitored my PH other than an occasional test once in a blue moon, has always been fine.

Could it be that I’m over doing the juice coming out the calcium reactor and thus pushing my PH down?

Regards Potassium I do a light dose of various trace elements every 2 or 3 weeks and a 5% water change every weekend so – any test kits worth buying to test this?

That doesnt really sound like nudis, they usually more ruthless when they get hold of a colony

Do you have any other sps in the tank?
