    Hi all

My green monti plate’s edge is going white.

Have 400mm cube, 2x 10K ½ white ½ blue. Only been in the tank for 3 days.

I moved it to mid way up the tank yesterday. Was this too soon, should I move it down again to bottom.

    Cheers

Pretty normal. It could be growth tips which are white. Post a pic if you can

I`d also urge you to post a pic as it could be growth (good) or recession (bad), a stark white however sounds like the bleaching.

That looks bad, looks like tissue recession. Is it in a boyu cube because it sounds like the lights you are describing are pc lights?

    Yes Boyu.

Wish I could have sorted this lighting issue out sooner. Been struggling for a solution for a bit now. Going to see a guy on Tuesday about an option of lighting for the tank. Will try and get monti out of my tank until lighting is sorted.

    O no.:(

I've also got a boyu tank and frag tanks filled with sps. Wish I could put my sps in my boyu tank. Have you done the lighting upgrade where you add an extra light 24w light in the tank...

Also the tissue recession might continue even if you remove the coral from the tank and put it in another tank. Sometimes the tissue recession might be so rapid that the whole coral may turn white in a few hours. You need to frag the coral to remove the affected areas.

No not done the upgrade. Do I just break the pieces off? How do I do this, don't need to cause more damage.

I use a dremel but they do break off easily by hand. You need to remove the white pieces and a little bit of healthy coral inward of the white pieces just to make sure it doesn't spread.

What are your water parameters like? In particular, Calcium and Alkalinity?

No idea on either of these parameters.

All other patameters that my test kit measures in the past have been stable. Testing for about 6 months. Tank is probably not mature enough. Should only add sps after 1 year.

    Salinity 1.024 - 1.026
    Temp 25d c
    Cl2 0 - 0.8
    ph 7.2 - 8
    KH 3d - 6d
    GH 8d
    Nitrite 0
    Nitrate 0 - 10

It is a all in one test kit.

Cannot give you the answer, sorry.

    What is CL2?

Your p.H is way too erratic and should be around 8 never fluctuating 0.2 points.

Your alkalinity is also erratic and too low especially if the reading is in DKH. The lowest it should be is 6.5 but I would push it up to 8DKH to be on the safe side

The lighting will be fine for the Monti, as long as it is kept high up. Try and get your water parameters correct, especially Alk (6.5-8.5 DKH).
Also try and run some carbon in order to polish the water and allow better light penetration. ;)
Oh yes, and what what flow do you have?

He has very little flow Mek. Pierre, bring the coral and some water to my place on sunday morning if the bleaching persists. The water sample should be separate from the coral.
