    Hi all

    Problem

My folks live on the other side of the world and I have been trying to help them over the phone but I am now totally lost as to what the problem could be, hopefully someone here can help me.

Apparently my son was playing on the pc, lost at the game he was playing and punched the keyboard Now they only have half a screen, as in the windows task bar now sits halfway up the screen and the bottom half of the screen is blank (black). I have gone through every single setting in the display properties and also the OSD menu on the monitor. My folks are over 70 years old and after an hour on the phone with them we were all getting frustrated.

Vertical positioning doesn't seem to do anything. Reset the monitor to factory defaults and still no change.

    Any idea's?

It is an LG flatron tft lcd monitor (4 months old).

I'm assuming that when he punched the keyboard he obviously pressed 2 or 3 buttons at the same time which caused the display to do this.???

    Cut his bloody hands off?:whistling:

If it is 4 months old, take it to the shop you got it from, explain (roughly) what happened, most of the younger lads working in those shops can sort these things out, most of the time freely.
Failing that ask your son if there is a game exchange shop near him, there are usually a few geeks about who will jump at the chance to fix a pc, they usually give me the "old git" look and fix most things:)

easy to fix, hold the mouse over the top of the taskbar, it should turn from an arrow to a double vertical arrow, as it changes click left button and drag down, this will resize the task bar in increments, do it till its about a 1cm high or just doesnt disapear :)

if it doesnt work, right click on task bar, then uncheck lock taskbar and it can now be resized and vice versa to prevent this from happening

But the taskbar is the right size, it's just the entire viewable area has moved up the screen about 6 inches and the bottom half of the screen is black.

if its a intel vga card, reset the driver, press f8 on boot, select vga boot, go into windows, then restart, then start normaly and once in redo the screen resolution as it will make 640x480

:blushing: Dude, I am so far behind, I'm on 6 pages of unread threads, PM's from about a week ago waiting for a response. Poor dallas sent me a PM about a month ago and is still waiting for a reply :p

Thanks, much appreciated, such a simple solution but I didn't even think of it. To spend an hour on an overseas call with a pair of 70 year old computer illiterate people was not my idea of fun
