    Morning all

When I bought my setup from the previous owner I was given half a bucket of
    Seachem_Salinity_4f5fa98c24612.jpg

so my question is, can I use this half bucket with another brand of salt or is it recommended to only use one brand?

    Thanks
    Paul

    You can but......

Always look out for the mix instructions. Some brands recomend to mix to to a SG on 1.021 and others to 1.026. The reason for this is that they will have similar Ca and Mg levels at the recommended SG. The brand that you have is quite a good one and a lot of aquariusts use it. it is recommended to mix to a salinity of S=35 which is aprox SG 1.026@ 25c. It will mix with other premium brands that mix to 1.026 (S=35)

Yes, you can mix with other salt brands, as long as you mix the salt according to salinity & not weight of salt / liter RO water as some salts have different salinities for dry weight added per liter water...

I would rather stick to one brand. reason for that is I believe this hobby is all about patience, consistency and stability. I don't believe that all salt brands come with exactly the same parameters and also amounts of trace elements etc. so even tho the difference can be small I personally would want to keep everything at the same level all the time. of course that won't apply if I buy let say 22 kg bucket and I use it for a year before I buy a different brand that I'm gonna use for a year on my nano let say.. but will apply if I want to change the salt that I'm using almost every week.
