Hi everyone, was just sitting and wondering why one doesn't see many "Mirror top" tanks on the marine forums. Not that I like them, but was just wondering if it's because other options look better, or is there risk of the mirror coating somehow getting into the water and poisoning the tank.

It's a regular glaas tank, with strips of mirror around the top of the front and side panes. They then make use of sliding covers, etc.

    Here's a pic:

Oh ok, I guess those must be for freshwater fishkeepers, marine keepers have their mirror's in their bathrooms. ;)

Hehe I see... I personally don't like the mirror top. Prefer a nice wooden hood or pendants. Was just wondering. Thanks Sentari!

    It is so last century.

No, the actual problem is that the salt water eventually breaks down the reflective coating at the back. And you end up with ugly looking mirrors that looks like they are 50 years old, that have especially on the top edge a blistered look.
