Yea I did that on my old tank.
There is a company in Randburg called Arcadia International.
They sell a very shinny sheet of metal called Alanod.
Had that on the back of my old tank as it is much more reflective that a mirror and not as heavy.

Looked beautiful but was a bitch to keep clean.
Problem with a reflective background is that you can see every mark, piece of algae or anything else on the glass at the back.

Not a good idea. Going to confuse your fish and any aggressive fish is going to spend all day fighting with itself.

I have seen fish being very upset with a mirror background at a LFS.

Some pics for you of my old tank for you.
You can see in some of the pics that the algae is visible, no matter how fine....

I have had a mirror on the side panel of my Ex frag tank... I wouldn't recommend using a mirror as its an algae growing magnet!
The additional amount of light that gets reflected from the mirror to the surface of the glass gives the algae a perfect place to grow! No matter what i did, i could never get that surface clean of algae even with lots of snails & daily cleaning.

What Fish do you want to keep? Many are territorial, you can forget about clowns, tangs and quite a few wrasse species.
