mh lighting

    might seem light a silly question but can someone tell me the difference between a mh light and the spotlight/securight lights for home :confused1:

    The wavelenth and colour of the light. Your ordinary security light has the wrong sectrum of light.

    The main difference is not the colour, its the way in which the light is made. A normal incandescent light uses electricity to heat a piece of "filament" (wire) so hot it glow brightly, A Mh has a tube filled with metal halide gas, which forms a arc within the tube when electricity is supplied, this arc is what generates light.

    WRT colour, generally a higher rating can be accomplished with a Mh.

    Agreed with the other guys. And besides a spot light that uses 150w wont even produce 30% of the lumens that a mh produces so you'll be using lotsa power but it still wont generate enough light for your corals.
