Hi Ruan - so far I have experienced: either 10000 Kelvin, or 14000 Kelvin.....

10000 is best when growth wants to be achieved but 14000 gives less growth but also more colour. The best would be 14000.

Low kelvin rating for growth and high kelvin rating for color

I got the bulb 10K,12K14K and 20K...so far i like mostly the 12K with extra actinic Osram 67...all dependent of couse of voltage...all my bulbs are 150W,but if U got 250W or more the highest Kelvin it's nice...i wouldent put 20K with 150W...Greetings...Rafael...

Ruan, my choice will be 12 or 14K. This gives you decent growth as well as excellent colouration.

    IMO it all depends....

On the corals u gonna stock. Top water corals would like 6500 to 10 000k range and then the lower your go...down to 20 000k.

Your globe wattage also needs to determine the amount of light power you want to punch all the way to the bottom of the tank...should should u also be planting SPS's down there.

I have a water depth of 60cm and some large SPS colonies all the way at the bottom. I use SE 250w halides using 20 000k BLV globes which are not as blue as other manufacturers. Currently I have no T5 supplementation.

No problems with growth and coloration.

On ebay you usually get the marine color globes which are quite useless only gives of 50lm/watt compared to most other mh's 110lm/watt so yeah better research the globe first before buying.

i was actually asking about the price of the osram actinic 67,is it a mh or t5 tube and what price for what wattage you pay?

Hi Falcon,so at this moment im using the T8 tubes osram 67 2X18W,thay cost around 6 euro each, after U got all kind of T5 osram 67 (24W and 39W cost allmost 14 euro and 54W 16een E)...im busy doing a big modyfication with my tank,i just finish my sump, after i must decided what light i will use...for now im quit happy with 12K MH 150 plus two tubes O67...i love the colour of tham...first thay were used in Germany for industry and light up a shops, very fast they start to interest reefkeepers...but i dont know if i wont get leds light, they start to be cheeper now,i do belive than in one year the price will be just correct.Talking about ebay's MH,i get 20K 150W PlusRite and thay had a good reputation on US reef forums ,but personally i dont like the colour, for me 20K must be minimum 250W,otherwise it's useless...

    Good choice dude,

    with my new lighting setup I will have 2 x 150W and 4 x 54W T5!!

I will be using venture globes - 10 000K (Although they look more like the BLV 14k)

Ruan, will you be diy'ing your lights?
If so, any more info of how you going about doing it? I'm keen to diy a MH/t5 setup for my future 750 cube, but am clueless where to start regarding MH.

check hennies thread for some references he also diy'd his mh.

it actually rather simple, choose you design(hanging, closed ready made type of unit looks good but lotsa work) then install the ballast(go electronic then you dont need any ignitor etc) and install the globe holders and your done.
