You do get a galvanize spray but just make sure you clean the stand 100% before spraying it. Perhaps even get it done professionally.

paint it with hammerite paint, got a 7 year guarantee if you put 3 coats. best paint you can get for rust

get it powder coated, not to expensive, rust proof and looks damn good! look at scubaninja's surf tank thread. that was powder coated for R180

They normally charge per kg so it all depends what your stand weighs.

Look at boat trailers, they are all galvanized. Take it in, hot dip galvanize is the best in the world.

    next best thing, powdercoat.

    Else Hammerite paint.

If you are going to make changes to the stand in future, first two options will be a problem. With hamerite paint you can weld extra bracket or whatever on, and repaint weld spot.
With Galvanize or powdercoat you must be sure that you do never want to change the metal stand in future. That include all holes drilled.

You can weld a galvanized stand, just remove the galvanized bit with a grinder and then weld.

You should also clean your stand every now and then with a damp cloth to remove the salt creep which tends to get everywhere

Yes you can, but that weld spot is were it where it will rust in the future. Even if you paint that spot, keeping in mind that you can not paint the inside of the square tube.

On that, when galvanizing the stand, ensure that all square tubing are open ended. So that the hot dip can penetrate to the inside of the tube. And when they take it out it can drain properly. Normally they weigh the piece before and after the dip, and you pay for the weight gain. So you do not want small holes that allow the liguid galvanize to enter but it can not drain properly. Then that tube will be full and you pay extra...

If you don't drill holes their is a good chance of a explosion, with the hot dip.

i got mine done last week for about R8.60/kg, its not all that expensive. Probably works out cheaper than painting with hammerite, and it's much easier!

I must say tho it depends what size of thing u want to get galvanized, no point in galvanizing a screw? I have two shelf brackets and sprayd it with zinc alloy spray looks copperish colour and also gauranteed not to rust. Then again out boat trailer wasnt totally galvanized it was powdercoated and in the joints it started rusting so id go galvanize or hammerite
