We’ve already been treated to a few sneaky smartphone photographs using the Mesoscope 2 but what does this optical tool actually look like? More than anything it seems like the second generation Mesoscope was built by a gunsmith using sniper scope parts. From the super nice case it comes in to the precision engineered way the mesoscope 2 comes together, everything about it screams that kids shouldn’t be playing with it. While that may have been true for the original Mesoscope, the new one has a*huge new suction cup mount which is actuated by a lever and will not come off from even the dirtiest tank glass.*

Everything about the newest telescope-for-your-aquarium oozes of carefully refined features. You can’t imagine how much more of a pleasure it is to use Ogles’ latest creation with the new angled eye piece. The straight view of the original mesoscope would definitely tire out your neck after a few minutes of use but that is no longer the case when you’re coming in at the Meso2 macro view from an angle.

Better yet, the depth of field and field of view of the Mesoscope 2 is so much greater than before – the subjects are a little bit less magnified but now scouting around your tank using only the mesoscope 2 is so much easier, and immersive. We’ve only taken a few cursory test shots using both the new DSLR adapter and the Ogles USB camera but we’ll be saving those observations for another day. If you were at all a fan of the first Mesoscope this new version delivers so much more usability that it’s well worth the five hundred dollar price tag. [Ogles]
